#FBF: New Found Glory at House of Blues Anaheim

NFG1
Wait, what time? Seriously, if this band’s a touring – House of Blues Anaheim is a venue they will likely be playing. The first time I voluntarily missed any school was seeing them at this venue when I was in high school. I’ll never know what I missed after we took off after lunch. That isn’t the show that came to mind though when it came to my absolute favorites. It was when New Found Glory decided to do a 10-year anniversary tour for their self-titled. While Catalyst houses my favorite song of theirs, this one has a special place in my heart. It was the one my best friend first let me borrow. It’s the one that got me into them back in middle school, it was the album that was the cause for one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

Hearing a band play an album front to back has yet to lose it’s magic since NFG kicked off what seems to be a lasting trend amongst bands in this scene. This is especially true because they play on your love of nostalgic. You were young, life was easier and this was the music that filled that time. That’s never not a feeling you can deny when you hear a song from your teenage years. Unless you were like Kimmy Schmidt and your youth was spent being held hostage by a mad man. For the rest of us, music usually connects us to good places and times in our memories – which again, is this album. So when they toured with it, hallelujah.

The only downfall of this show though, and any tour that has them – Saves The Day. I just can’t with that band, but that night – I quickly forgot the even existed as Fireworks and Hellogoodbye brought so much to the show. Plus, you can never forget the bands all coming out at the end, having a million times more fun on stage than we were having off. No really, they looked like the happiest bunch of grown men I’d ever seen. For that, and the celebration of one of the best albums…it will always be one of my most cherished show memories.

  1. Haha, as soon as I read the title, my exact thoughts were – “Which time?” That was one of my favorite tours ever. I got some great photos of the bands all out on stage and still have one hanging in my office! *Memories*
