Watch Watergate Fossil John Dean Get Obliterated At Anti-Trump Hearing

Ex-Nixon WH counsel This is strikingly like Watergate

The chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee said on Monday that a deal had been reached between his panel and the Justice Department to turn over the underlying evidence of the Mueller report, avoiding a scheduled contempt vote for now.

Nadler said he would hold off on pursuing criminal contempt vote in order to allow the Justice Department time to comply.

"This committee is now hearing from the Seventies and they want their star witness back", he said.

The House resolution would authorize lawsuits against Attorney General William Barr and former White House counsel Don McGahn for defying subpoenas pertaining to special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

The Justice Department did not have an immediate comment.

The Mueller report found that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russian operatives.

On Wednesday, the House Intelligence Committee will hold a rare open hearing on the counterintelligence information detailed in the Mueller report. Joyce White Vance, former United States attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, said, "Mueller was investigating an attack on our democracy by a hostile foreign power, and on multiple occasions, the president tried to thwart it, curtail it, or end it completely, either by removing the special counsel outright or interfering with his ability to gather evidence".

The Democratic-controlled House will vote as previously planned on Tuesday on a measure that would increase pressure on Trump by authorizing the committee to sue the administration in federal court if needed over access to the report.

"We simply can not tolerate a posture from the president of the United States. of noncooperation - of absolute, comprehensive, wholesale defiance of the will of a Congress trying to seek information", said Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md.

"Like Comey, Cox was charged with investigating wrongdoing by the President and his advisors and Cox refused an ultimatum from the White House", he said.

"Did you actually say that, did you actually say that the President, you'd rather see him in prison, ?"

Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974 after his political support eroded amid a House Judiciary Committee impeachment inquiry unearthing information about his involvement in a cover-up of the Watergate scandal.

In his opening remarks, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, New York Democrat, called Mr. Dean "a critical witness", saying the committee needed to rely on his testimony and others to "draw our own conclusions about the findings of the special counsel".

"Stated a little differently, special counsel Mueller has provided this committee with a road map". Both have been told by Trump's White House lawyers not to testify. At the time, Dean testified before Congress about White House corruption that led to Nixon's resignation as he was about to be impeached.

The argument for the necessity of impeachment just grew stronger, and it had nothing to do with former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's evidence.
