NY judge denies Trump bid to block House Deutsche Bank subpoenas

Donald Trump's former aide will not testify before Congress after White House warning

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says President Donald Trump "took a pass" on working together with Democrats to address the nation's crumbling infrastructure.

Schumer, speaking after Pelosi, asserted Trump's stunt was pre-planned move to avoid speaking about infrastructure funding.

"When we got in the room, the curtains were closed", the NY senator said about their brief meeting. "And we believe that the president of the United States is engaged in a cover-up", Pelosi told reporters after a morning meeting of House Democrats.

Accusing Democrats of harassing the presidency, Trump said the infrastructure plans were doomed for now and seemed to threaten breaking relations with the opposition party, which controls the lower house of Congress. "'So get these phony investigations over with'".

The president said he told Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that he wanted to make an infrastructure deal more than they did, but "you can't do it under these circumstances".

"Lots of members want to put an impeachment inquiry on the table", said Rep. Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland.

Nancy Pelosi began her day preparing to talk infrastructure with President Donald Trump.

"Now what happens? The Democrats want a redo and we've had enough and the country has had enough", he told reporters on the south lawn of the White House before boarding Marine One for a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

"They are looking for records about minors, about in-laws", said Strawbridge, claiming that even information about Trump's grandchildren could be swept up in the subpoenas.

However, a federal judge handed Democrats a victory Monday, upholding a congressional subpoena for the president's financial records from an accounting firm.

Lawyers for Trump responded in writing that accepting the view of the committees would mean "Congress can issue a subpoena on any matter, at any time, for any reason, to any person, and there is basically nothing a federal court can do about it".

The judge's opinion also states that Congress can investigate the president's conduct both before and after he took office.

According to a Medium post from the Judiciary Committee Democrats, they're interested in "testimony and documents related to the House Judiciary Committee's ongoing investigation into obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power by President Trump, his associates, and members of his Administration".

Jeffries advocated to "hold the President and the administration accountable", calling for special counsel Robert Mueller to publicly testify before Congress and for the House to hold Attorney General William Barr, who declined to testify before the Judiciary committee, in contempt.

The president reminded reporters again that the Robert Mueller report had concluded that he had not colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Democrats have debated for months whether to initiate the impeachment process, with some lawmakers clamouring for it.

"The Justice Department has no place informing you about the potential remedies that Congress may pursue in the exercise of its own Article I powers", he wrote.

Pelosi previously said in early April that she would not consider ratifying the new trade agreement until Mexico reformed its labor laws.
