Brexit: Theresa May to ask UK Parliament to vote on another referendum

Changes Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay is reviewing the Withdrawal Bill

She said Parliament has "one last chance" to deliver a smooth exit from the European Union, offering MPs the chance to vote on whether to hold a second Brexit referendum - but only on the condition they vote for the Withdrawal Agreement Bill in two weeks' time.

MPs will get a vote on whether to hold another referendum if they back the EU Withdrawal Agreement Bill, she said.

She said the government would also allow parliament to decide whether to temporarily remain in the customs union.

The bill also contains new guarantees on workers' rights, environmental protections and the Northern Irish border as well a customs "compromise".

The government is aiming for the law to be approved by the time that parliament´s summer recess begins on July 20, which would allow Britain to leave the European Union at the end of that month as long as MPs reject a second referendum.

On the right, David Davis, a former Brexit minister, said he would not vote to approve the Withdrawal Agreement, because it risked a second referendum.

Trump also reacted to a ruling by a judge against a lawsuit challenge a House subpoena for his financial records. His comments came after he was briefed on tensions with Tehran by U.S.

A source in Prime Minister Theresa May's office said on Friday the Withdrawal Agreement Bill would "contain new features" to reflect discussions the government has had with lawmakers over their concerns.

May didn't offer fresh details, but she has previously promised to outline the timetable of her departure if she loses the next Brexit vote.

May's hands have been tied, knowing that to make concessions to Labour would lead to fury in her divided party.

Ms May's Brexit proposal had been rejected three times already this year, as Labour lawmakers and other sceptical Conservatives feared her suggestions could doom the United Kingdom if passed in each of those three times.

Ian Blackford, a lawmaker with the pro-EU Scottish National Party, said it was "too little, too late from a prime minister who is headed for the exit door". He said the EU was set for major changes and challenges as a result of the European elections and would likely be prepared to devote less focus on Brexit going forward.

'It would be very risky to vote through a deal to leave the European Union without any clear idea of our eventual destination - a blindfold Brexit that would only prolong uncertainty for families, businesses and Parliament.

Addressing lawmakers - though in a speech at the London corporate headquarters of PricewaterhouseCoopers rather than in the House of Commons - May said she was "making a new offer to find common ground in Parliament".

Tory Brexiteers responded angrily to the PM's new plan.

"I recognise the genuine and honest strength of feeling across the house on this important issue", May said in a nationally televised address delivered from the offices of a major accounting firm in London.

"Whatever the outcome of any votes, I will not be simply asking MPs to think again".

"The government's intention to hold a vote on the agreement despite not reaching a cross-party understanding with the Labour party may decrease market expectations of the deal's passage".

Talks between Labour and the Conservatives have come to an end with no deal on Brexit.
