Tiger Woods Wins Fifth Masters, First Win At Augusta Since 2005

Masters Weather could be a major factor this weekend

Tiger Woods rolled back the years at Augusta National on Sunday, with the famous "Tiger Roar" echoing through the azaleas as he claimed a share of the US Masters lead.

Molinari, who also beat Woods three times alongside Tommy Fleetwood in compiling a ideal 5-0 record in the 2018 Ryder Cup, carded a flawless third round of 66 to finish 13 under par and has dropped just one shot all week, on the 11th hole on Thursday.

Also lurking was Brooks Koepka, who won a second straight US Open title past year then held off Woods to win the PGA Championship.

Two holes later five players were tied at the top, but Woods' birdie on the long 15th took him clear on his own.

Saturday projections called for strong thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, when the leaders would normally be entering the second nine of the tournament. I think I've only missed two fairways on the par 5s this week, and that was yesterday (Friday) on 13 and 15.

World urges smooth transition in Sudan
The Sudanese army has promised to provide a "completely civilian" government after deposing former President Omar al-Bashir. Auf had first announced that the military would be in charge of the country for two years before conducting elections.

Finau equalled the all-time Masters scoring record on the first nine, helped by a magnificent 2nd shot at the par five eighth that left him with a tap-in eagle, leaving him in a tie with Woods for second.

Rounding out the final group is Tony Finau, who is at 11 under tied with three-time major victor Brooks Koepka. And I've always felt it, from the first time I remember ever playing a golf tournament to now.

Four-time victor Woods rolled in a 7-foot birdie putt at the 16th, sending roars cascading across Augusta National as he moved to 11-under for the tournament. The lead threesome will tee off in the final group at 9:20 a.m.

Tiger Woods remains in contention to win his first Masters since 2005 with nine holes left to play in the final round.

Woods noted that three of his four Masters victories - in 1997, 2001 and 2002 opened with rounds of 70. He said it was a byproduct of him tailoring his game for Augusta National and not playing since The Players.

Sudan braces for military announcement after anti-Bashir protests
Ibnouf also declared a state of emergency in the country for the next three months with the constitution being suspended. Protesters rally near the military headquarters, April 9, 2019, in the capital Khartoum, Sudan.

Woods was also slow to join the birdie bandwagon, opening with four straight pars before a bogey at the fifth.

He began the day tied for 11th and four shots back of the lead, and by the time he teed off at 1:47 p.m. ET, scores had not gone much lower.

They first met, he recounted, at Woods' restaurant in Jupiter, Fla., in 2015, when Finau was a PGA Tour rookie and Woods hosted a dinner for all of the Nike staff players. Day, for example, has made seven birdies on the eight par-5s.

Woods had three birdies on each nine, with a bogey 5 on the fifth his only blight.

"I think that what's so important is it's just moving the needle", said Women's Sports Foundation CEO Deborah Antoine.
