United Kingdom formally requests second Brexit extension to June 30

MEPs backed the plans in Brussels on Thursday

May is battling to contain a backlash from within her Conservative Party over her decision to work with Labour Party leader Corbyn, someone she has spent three years deriding.

Mrs May faces anger from Conservative Brexiteers over the prospect of the UK's departure being delayed, with one minister saying that if Britons were required to elect MEPs on May 23 it would be like writing a "suicide note" for the Tory party.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has written to European Council President Donald Tusk requesting another extension of Brexit till June 30, the media reported on Friday.

"The House of Commons has not thus far approved the deal that would enable this, nor - despite considerable efforts by both Members of Parliament and by the government - has it yet found a majority in favor of any other proposal", May said.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas echoed Rutte's concerns and said May must clarify her plan before the upcoming EU summit so European leaders could "form an opinion on an extension" and "under what circumstances" any postponement could take place.

"We urge them to seize this opportunity without hesitation, and to identify the concessions they will all need to accommodate to finally take no-deal off the table".

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Saturday that it was "extremely unlikely" any of the 27 countries would veto a delay.

Ms. May has been unable to win parliamentary approval for a withdrawal agreement she struck with the European Union last November.

But she warned that "the longer this takes, the greater the risk of the United Kingdom never leaving at all". I will not stand for that.

"There is concern that the government doesn't want to alter the political declaration", she told the BBC, referring to the part of May's deal outlining the future relationship with the EU.

The prime minister said the British government would like to agree a timetable for ratification that allows Britain to withdraw from the EU before May 23, but the government would continue to make responsible preparations for the European elections on the date.

"We've set all that out".

The Saudi Crown Prince has been accused of planning Khashoggi's killing, but the kingdom has claimed that he was not involved. Three of Khashoggi's children are now in the USA , while his eldest son is reportedly still based in Saudi Arabia.

He said: "So far, the Government isn't proposing any changes to the deal".

"Our approach to these discussions with Labour is that we have no red lines, we will go into these talks with an open mind and discuss everything with them in a constructive fashion".

A Labour spokesperson said: "We are disappointed that the government has not offered real change or compromise".

According to a senior official, Tusk told the room: "I would call it a "flextension".

"We are waiting for a credible plan between now and the European Union summit on April 10, when we will study the request", said the source.

May will meet European Union leaders Wednesday to make her case for a short extension to June 30.

The EU dismissed Rees-Mogg's comments about what Britain should do if it remains a member over the coming months, seen by his critics as an attempt to goad the EU into rejecting the extension and therefore making a no-deal Brexit likelier.
