Smartphones help Huawei boost annual revenue

A logo of Huawei hangs in the lobby of the Cyber Security Lab at Huawei factory in Dongguan China's Guangdong province

Driven by its smartphone sales, Huawei reported a net profit of close to $9 billion in 2018, which was an increase of 25% compared to the previous year.

However, Huawei has had to contend with accusations that its equipment is insecure, with the United States and Australia excluding the company from their 5G rollouts.

At a press conference on Friday, rotating chairman Guo Ping said the decline was mainly because the company upped investments in research and development past year.

The US accused ZTE Corp., a major supplier of telecom networks and smartphones based in southern China, of misleading American regulators after it settled charges of violating sanctions against North Korea and Iran.

Little gloating in Europe at Britain's Brexit mess
A revised political declaration would open the way for a further section 13 approval vote that would also meet the Bercow test. A close loss would underscore the deadlock that has paralysed British politics since the 2016 Brexit vote.

Despite the security flaws identified in the report Thursday, British authorities said they do not believe the defects were a result of "Chinese state interference" and the report did not find that Huawei was giving the Chinese government backdoor access as the U.S. is warning.

"We are confident that the companies that choose to work with Huawei will be the most competitive in the 5G era", he said. "As long as the Chinese company maintains its technological edge, more countries will embrace Huawei's products", Xiang said. However, Huawei claims that cybersecurity and user privacy protection are at the top of its agenda.

"We expect more large-scale deployment of 5G in 2019". And countries that choose to work with Huawei will gain an advantage for the next wave of growth in the digital economy.

Guo said, "The easiest way to bring down a fortress is to attack it from within. And the easiest way to reinforce it is from outside".

Jordan Bell #2 of the Golden State Warriors plays the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, Jan. 15, 2019. The 24-year-old will serve his suspension Wednesday night, when the Warriors travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies .

"Moving forward, we will do everything we can to shake off outside distractions, improve management, and make progress towards our strategic goals. In addition, we will continue our organisational transformation to inspire greater passion and vitality across the organization". It is not only Huawei technology that is capable of being used for spying the article argues.

Guo Ping's comments came as Huawei Technologies Ltd., the biggest global maker of network equipment for phone and internet companies, announced last year's sales surpassed $100 billion despite USA pressure on American allies to shun it as a security threat.

Meanwhile, Huawei's enterprise division saw revenue grow by 23.8 per cent to 74.4 billion Yuan (£8.5bn), while the carrier business fell by 1.3 per cent to 294 billion Yuan (£33.6bn).
