Prominent Mueller prosecutor expected to leave team soon

Mueller testifies during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing Jan. 31 2012

The resolution is not legally binding, but passing it gives Democrats an opportunity to keep a spotlight on the issue as they work to put pressure on the Justice Department to disclose as much of Mueller's findings in the special counsel's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election as possible.

The overwhelming bipartisan support for the bill signals that the House GOP is willing to help make available to the public a report that many Democrats believe could contain damaging information about Trump, his administration and how he ran his 2016 presidential campaign.

News outlets have reported that Mueller & Co. were in the process of writing a final report on the investigation, which looked into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation as well as possible obstruction of justice on the part of President Trump.

The Senate is not obligated to vote on this or any similar resolution, and under Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, is all but certain to not.

We Need a Special Counsel to Investigate 'Potential Crimes' by FBI, DOJ
The transcript shows Strzok was asked about decisions made during the Clinton probe, including then-FBI Director James B. Comey's efforts to draft a memo explaining his rationale for not prosecuting Clinton in advance of interviewing her.

The resolution - sponsored by Rep. Jerrold Nadler of NY, the Judiciary Committee chairman, and a handful of other Democratic committee leaders - "calls for the public release of any report Special Counsel Mueller provides to the attorney general, except to the extent the public disclosure of any portion thereof is expressly prohibited by law".

The four "present" votes came from two libertarians who routinely oppose such resolutions, Reps.

During the opening statement of his confirmation hearing, Barr said it is "very important that the public and Congress be informed of the results of the Special Counsel's work", adding that he will do his best to release what he can.

"As this resolution makes clear, Congress will not accept any attempt by Mr. Barr or the President to bury the report and the findings of the Special Counsel". "Was there two systems of justice, one for the Democratic candidate, one for the Republican candidate?"

Paul Manafort charged by NY prosecutors with 16 further crimes
But Jackson dismissed his plea for no more prison time on the charges of conspiring to launder money and tamper with witnesses. At trial in Virginia in August, a jury found him guilty on eight counts and deadlocked on 10 others.

"[Barr] understands the questions and turmoil this has caused", Collins said. Whether or not Mueller is close to finishing the probe is unclear, but several individuals close to Trump have been indicted and convicted for crimes uncovered during the course of the investigation. It also reported that a confidential report by Mueller's office is expected to be sent to the Justice Department soon.

If Barr both denies lawmakers' request to publicize the report and resists any subsequent subpoenas, that could set up a drawn-out court fight between Congress and the executive branch over the document's disclosure.

"Those are also going to be things that we are going to have to litigate", Collins said.
