Spotify launches its music streaming services in India

Spotify finally enters India with subscriptions starting at ₹119

Spotify is finally officially available in India, and it's offering Indian music fans a perk available nowhere else in the world - the ability to play any song on-demand on the free version of the smartphone app.

The same plans in the United States start at $9.99, $11.37 in France and $13.30 in the United Kingdom.

On Tuesday, the service was made available in India through Spotify's web and mobile apps for new and existing users.

Cargo jet crashes in Texas with 3 on board
Debris was littered across an nearly mile-long stretch in Trinity Bay, according to Chambers County sheriff Brian Hawthorne . Hawthorne says crews remain in an active recovery mode at Trinity Bay, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) east of Houston.

"India has an incredibly rich music culture and to best serve this market, we're launching a custom-built experience".

According to Bloomberg's report on the matter, Spotify doesn't actually have a license to stream Warner Group's music, but intends to do so anyway by taking advantage of an ancient (relatively speaking) Indian law that lets broadcasters (like FM radio services) to license copyrighted content without the consent of the original copyright holder. Unless you happen to be a massive movie-musical or musical theatre fan, you've probably not noticed that there are very few actors with Spotify pages, as most soundtracks just get credited as "The Cast of X". The company claims to offer more than 40 million songs and 3 billion playlists.

The company has a monthly subscription plan of Rs 119 and if a user needs to pay for only one month, the company will charge Rs 129. For students over the age of 18 enrolled at an accredited college or university, Spotify can be subscribed for Rs 59 per month for four years.

Brexit must not be frustrated, UK PM Theresa May says
Any deal must also be endorsed by the European Parliament before the deadline. "It defers the point of decision", she said. But she has so far proved her doubters wrong, and on the way to Egypt said there was still a way to go to secure Brexit.

However, the Bombay High Court denied Warner's request, clearing the way for Spotify's official launch in the country. In January Spotify had announced the "addition of an expanded catalog from T-Series", with over 1,60,000 songs in Hindi and regional languages. Additionally, the company recently faced an issue with Warner Music, which disallows the company from bringing music by artists like Katy Perry, Led Zepelling the country.

Also, the rise of independent artists will enable India to become a global powerhouse of creators, most of whom are looking to break the scene not just locally, but globally, he said adding that it's the flawless time for Spotify to launch in India. "We had no choice but to ask an Indian court for an injunction to prevent this", a Warner Music spokesperson said. However, it has licencing agreements with Universal and Sony in place.

Cecilia Qvist, Spotify's Global Head of Markets added: "Spotify's arrival in India is a big step forward in our overall global growth strategy. We will continue to assess our options at this stage", Spotify said. Spotify's presence is however limited with its availability in 79 countries including India.
