Trump defends decision to pull US forces out of Syria and Afghanistan

Mitch Mc Connell reveals that the Republican party is fundamentally opposed to democracy

In a surprising vote Thursday, the Senate voted 68-23 to pass a resolution from Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) expressing opposition to President Trump's plan to withdraw United States troops from Syria, and expressing opposition to any theoretical pullout from Afghanistan that might result from a negotiated deal to end that war.

Indeed, virtually every senator rumored to be considering a run for the Democratic 2020 presidential nomination voted against the legislation, including Sens. Talk of an impulsive pullout from Syria has incited fears of an ISIS resurgence there, as well as growing concern for the safety of Kurdish fighters who have partnered with US forces.

"This is just a way of saying that we in the Congress. the military. and the president agree", Sen.

"We have won against ISIS, we have beaten them, and we have beaten them badly", the president said in December via a video message on his preferred medium, Twitter. Today's vote was on whether to add an amendment to a broader Middle East legislative package that includes a bill clamping down on the pro-Palestinian boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement.

Nintendo Announces The New ‘Dr
Nintendo shares soared more than 15 percent in January on expectations that sales were solid for the Christmas shopping season. With the Nintendo Switch proving to be a runaway success, it makes sense for Nintendo to find ways to continue that run.

Thursday's vote serves notice to the White House that senior Republican leaders want a reversal of Trump's order to withdraw U.S. special forces from Syria and a check on future plans to withdraw troops in Afghanistan.

Some Republicans stressed that the fringe benefit to Iran is why Trump was wrong to believe that the conflicts in Syria and Afghanistan are problems for "other people".

Opponents say Rubio's measure infringes on free speech. The new members of the Senate Armed Services Committee also wrote in a letter to Trump that abandoning allies and doing nothing to prevent their slaughter undermines the global effort to defeat ISIS and jeopardizes the country's honor. McConnell steadfastly backed Trump's right to strike at Bashar Assad in Syria in 2017 and 2018, sans congressional support.

Mr McConnell had warned of "the danger of a precipitous withdrawal from either conflict", reminding of the terrorist attack of September 11, and where Al Qaeda used Afghanistan as a safe haven to plan an attack against the United States. Some anxious it might prevent Congress from putting any limits at all on the president's war powers.

They are a good team, they play good football, great players, and for us we were just not lucky enough I think". That is what we will do, not counting points and hoping for gaps between us and other teams.

"NATO deserves the Senate's support", McConnell said.

The result can often seem like a foreign policy in flux, zigzagging from bold pronouncements to more measured actions as "a number of different voices on the Hill are trying to put their imprint on the policy", said Brian Katulis, a former Clinton administration national security adviser now at the Center for American Progress.

I'm heading to the Senate floor right now to speak against Senator McConnell's Syria amendment.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll during the shutdown found 66 percent of Americans opposed Trump using emergency powers to build the wall without approval from Congress, 12 percentage points higher than opposition to the wall in general.
