Breakfast 'does not help you lose weight'

Will eating breakfast help you lose weight? Maybe

Kevin Murphy, professor of endocrinology and metabolism at Imperial College London, said in an email to CNN that the study's "analysis suggests that eating breakfast is, on average, likely to make it more hard to lose weight, as you eat more calories during the day".

BREAKFAST HAS traditionally been described as the most important meal of the day. However, there's now even more evidence that this may not be the case.

"If a person likes to eat breakfast, that is fine... there is no reason to change", she said. It also challenges studies that suggest skipping breakfast can disrupt the body's internal clock and lead to weight gain.

Meanwhile this new study, conducted by Monash University researchers, used evidence from 13 randomised controlled trials in developed countries, including the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan over 28 years to determine the effect of regularly eating breakfast on weight change and daily energy intake.

Google disables iPhone app that studied users' digital habits
It's not clear if Facebook will be allowed back into the program with new certificates, and whether Apple will change its mind. Apple has yet to publicly offer a comment on the report and say whether it will impose any meaningful sanctions on Facebook.

In fact, the researchers found that those who ate breakfast actually consumed more calories - an average of 260 more calories a day - compared with those who skipped breakfast, regardless of their usual breakfast habits. These were an average of 0.44 kilograms lighter. These studies are usually observational, though, meaning they only look for indirect associations between two things (in this example, eating or skipping breakfast and weight loss or less obesity) in a decent-sized group of people. "Whilst some studies do show that people who eat breakfast tend to be a healthier weight, there is no clear benefit of starting to eat breakfast just as a tool to lose weight", says Dr Frankie Phillips, a registered dietitian at the BDA.

Prof Cicuttini explains that the focus should be not placed on when we eat our largest meal of the day - whether it's at lunch or breakfast - but on total daily calorie content.

While previous studies have suggested that eating breakfast may help with weight loss because of the efficient burning of calories early in the day preventing overeating later on, reviewers found no significant difference in metabolic rates between breakfast eaters and skippers.

If you happen to skip your meals in a day after eating a hearty breakfast, thinking that it might help you in your weight loss journey, then you probably need to rethink.

Washington governor declares state of emergency over measles outbreak
The tragedy is that the deadly disease and its consequences are nearly 100 percent preventable if the population is vaccinated. There is one case so far in Multnomah County , one in King County, Washington, and now a suspected case in Deschutes County.

There is no good evidence to support the idea that eating breakfast promotes weight loss.

The results suggest that eating breakfast contributes to weight gain "simply by more calorie intake", according to Cicuttini.

It's hardly groundbreaking to discover that eating one less meal in the day will help you to lose weight.

"So a simple breakfast of wholegrain cereal and milk with a glass of unsweetened fruit juice and a cup of tea provides protein, fibre, a raft of vitamins and minerals, and plant phytochemicals", he said. But ultimately, a better question than when should I eat is what foods should I eat, and in what quantities?
