Travis Etienne celebrates one of his second-quarter touchdowns with a sky-high Christian Wilkins at Levi's Stadium

The Tigers should start the 2019 season ranked No. 1 in the country.

In the fourth consecutive playoff meeting between them, Clemson tied the series and defeated Alabama for the second time in three seasons.

The Tigers, the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff, blew out No. 1 Alabama in the national championship game. Clemson is the first team in the AP poll era, dating back to 1936, to finish with a 15-0 record.

It began nearly immediately as Terrell stepped in front of Tagovailoa's throw and ran untouched into the end zone to put Alabama on its heels, down 7-0.

But Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide didn't need long to avenge the touchdown, scoring on a 62-yard pass, making the score 7-7 less than three minutes into the contest. Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence found receiver Tee Higgins for a 62-yard bomb on third down to put CU in the red zone, and sophomore Travis Etienne finished things off the very next play with a 17-yard run into the end zone.

In the second half, the 6-foot-4 freshman Ross and the Tigers defense took over. Now it will be Alabama going after them, looking for revenge.

Clemson linebacker Tre Lamar and safety Tanner Muse stopped Tagovailoa a yard short on fourth-and-3 on Clemson's 14.

By then, the Crimson Tide had little left to give. He also had 199 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He was named the offensive player of the game.
