Blizzard warning, more snow and wind expected

Heavy snowfall could mar end-of-2018 travel as a winter storm moves across the country in coming days

Area residents heading out Thursday morning should be prepared to deal with slick roads, strong winds and in some places a blast of snow as part of a weather system that may even be packing some thunder.

Areas from northeastern South Dakota to southeastern North Dakota and west-central Minnesota are expected to receive a storm total of 12-18 inches of snow. However, it will be short-lived, as the snow will transition to rain from south to north overnight.

Statewide, northwest winds are expected to gust in excess of 30 miles per hour.

A National Weather Service report warns to expect reduced visibility, particularly Thursday and Friday from snow and blowing snow. Ellis County is in a Winter Weather Advisory with 2-5 inches of snow predicted.

By 9:30 a.m. Thursday, there was approximately 8 inches of snow recorded in Bemidji.
