Prosecutors on Friday unveiled their recommendation as to what sentence former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen should get since he's been cooperating.
But prosecutors gave him no such clearance.
Cohen, dubbed Trump's "legal fixer" in the past, also described his work in conjunction with Trump in orchestrating hush money payments to two women - a porn star and a Playboy model - who said they had sex with Trump a decade earlier.
Prosecutors said probation officials recommended a sentence for Cohen of three-and-a-half years in prison.
However, in the crimes to which he pleaded guilty in August, he was motivated "by personal greed and repeatedly used his power and influence for deceptive ends". Prosecutors, who said Flynn's assistance was "substantial" and merited no prison time, disclosed that he had cooperated not only with the Russian Federation investigation but also with at least one other undisclosed criminal probe.
CNN’s New York Office Evacuates Over Bomb Threat
The Midtown North precinct tweeted that West 58th St. between 8th and 9th Avenues is closed due to a "police investigation". The NYPD tweeted, "Around 10:35pm, a bomb threat was called into the Time Warner Center & the building was evacuated".
Mueller's office has been tasked with investigating whether anyone in Trump's campaign conspired with the Russians who were waging those "active measures" against the United States and the West.
"Just to make it crystal clear, NY federal prosecutors concluded that the President of the United States committed a felony", he tweeted.
Prosecutors in NY are seeking "substantial" jail time, but Mr Mueller does not recommend additional time behind bars as a result of his inquiry. To promote transparency and prevent wealthy individuals like Cohen from circumventing these limits, Congress prohibited individuals from making expenditures on behalf of and coordinated with candidates.
But Bradley Moss, an attorney in Washington, D.C., who specializes in national security issues, said the repeated contacts with people in Trump's orbit raise the question of whether they were isolated incidents or part of a broader Russian effort.
Cohen, citing the fact he has co-operated with investigators, had requested a sentence of no prison time. They said that "reflects Cohen's extensive, deliberate and serious criminal conduct".
Trump holds out possible extension on 90-day China trade truce - global
Trump is relying on tariffs, and the threat of imposing them, to force other countries to buy more goods from America. In exchange, China offered more than one-point-two trillion dollars in additional commitments on trade.
The feds argued that Cohen's cooperation after his extensive crimes should not make him a hero.
"When you look at what the prosecutors did in the Southern District of NY they allege that Donald Trump directed two campaign finance violations".
The court documents disclosed that Trump hired Cohen in 2007 for $500,000 a year after he ousted the board of a condo that was trying to remove Trump's name from its building.
And prosecutors accused Trump's onetime campaign manager Paul Manafort of multiple "lies" to investigators: about his contacts with administration officials even after striking a plea deal; about a debt payment he made; and about his interaction with a suspected Russian intelligence officer. And no, these aren't charges coming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigations.
But Mueller has been inching ever closer to the White House, and early on Friday Trump fired off a feverish volley of tweets against a probe he dubs a "witch hunt", accusing Mueller of "big time conflicts of interest" and alleging the prosecutor coerced false testimony from witnesses.
European authorities launch crackdown on Italian mob
European police agency Europol called it a "decisive hit against one of the most powerful Italian criminal networks in the world". Wednesday's raids come a day after the new suspected head of the Cosa Nostra and 45 other alleged gangsters were arrested.
The report was expected to provide more information on Mueller's probe, but federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson granted the special counsel's request to file the report under seal and ordered a redacted version to be released.
