Ukraine bars entry of Russian males 16 to 60 amid naval conflict

Ukraine bans entry for ALL Russian males aged between 16 and 60

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko said the restrictions have been imposed to prevent Russians from forming "private armies" in his country.

The move came amid fears of a Russian invasion after Russian forces seized three Ukrainian vessels and 24 sailors in the Black Sea last Sunday.

Russian state-run media said Friday Moscow isn't planning a counter-ban for Ukrainian men of military age.

Ukrainian State Border Service Head Pyotr Tsigikal said earlier that security measures would be tightened at crossing points.

"As far as Ukraine is concerned - not the state itself, but mostly Pyotr Poroshenko, who is now ruling the country - it is just horrifying to talk about tit-for-tat responses", Zakharova said.

The BBC found it unlikely that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation would deploy warships to the Sea of Azov, which is connected to the Black Sea via the Kerch Strait, a strategically vital passage that was the scene of Sunday's attack on Ukrainian ships by Russian forces.

"We can only resolve this in talks with one another because there is no military solution to all of these conflicts", she added.

While the world refused to recognize the new reality, Russian Federation began to impose rules for ships transiting the strait, including 48 hours notice to get permission.

The long-simmering conflict bubbled over Sunday when Russian border guards rammed into and opened fire on three Ukrainian boats near the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

According to McAdams, Russia was within its rights in responding to the Ukrainians abandoning internationally accepted norms of maritime behaviour and sending their vessels into Russian territorial waters.

Separately, a Reuters correspondent in Crimea on Wednesday observed a Russian navy minesweeper ship, the Vice-Admiral Zakharin, heading for the Sea of Azov.

Ukraine now says that at least some of the detained sailors that have faced magistrates in Crimea are being moved to Moscow, which is not a good sign.

Porshenko has claimed that Putin wants "nothing less" than to occupy the Sea of Azov.

Ukrainian servicemen attend a military drill near the village of Urzuf, Ukraine, on November 29.

For a long time, the slogan "we can repeat" - a reference to the Soviet Union's WWII victory - was popular in Russian Federation. First it was Crimea, then eastern Ukraine, now he wants the Sea of Azov.

In response, the Ukrainian parliament on Monday passed the president's motion to impose martial law in all border areas for 30 days.

Ukraine backs martial law after confrontation at sea with Russian Federation
Ukraine's navy said the men had been pressured into making the video statements , which appeared to have been pre-written. While other USA officials took a strong stand behind Ukraine, President Donald Trump seemed more equivocal.

The latest confrontation began last weekend as the three small vessels tried to pass through the narrow Kerch Strait separating Russia's mainland from Crimea.

The strait also separates Russian Federation from Crimea, the peninsula Moscow illegally annexed from Ukraine four years ago.

Whatever Putin's true objective are, the Russians seem increasingly focused on making things as turbulent as possible for Ukraine.

The White House on Wednesday said Trump and Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the Ukraine-Russia incident by telephone and "the two leaders expressed deep concern about the incident in the Kerch Strait and the continued detainment of Ukraine's vessels and crew members".

But the incident has prompted renewed calls for more Western sanctions on Russian Federation.

Earlier on November 30, the Kremlin said it regrets U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to cancel a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at an upcoming Group of 20 (G20) summit.

A Crimea court this week ruled that the Ukrainian seamen will be kept behind bars for two months pending Russia's investigation into the clash.

The peninsula existed as a semi-autonomous region of Ukraine, with political bonds to Kyiv but strong cultural ties to Moscow.
