Russian MoD to Discuss Aleppo Chlorine Shelling With Ankara

Alleged poison gas attack on Aleppo

Russian Federation bombed Syrian rebels it accused of carrying out a chlorine attack the previous day, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

A Syrian official and the state news agency say more than 100 people have been treated at hospitals after a suspected poison gas attack by rebels in the northern city of Aleppo, updating an earlier toll.

Russian Federation launched airstrikes on the city of Aleppo yesterday after the Syrian regime and its allies accused rebels of a chemical attack, endangering a fragile ceasefire in the north of the country that was agreed in September.

Syria's war has killed more than 360,000 people since it erupted in 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-government protests.

The two sides have periodically exchanged fire in northwest Syria since an accord between Moscow, a key ally of Damascus, and Turkey, which backs some rebel factions, was agreed to create buffer zones in the region to limit fighting.

Russia's defense ministry accused insurgents on Sunday of firing shells filled with chlorine gas at Aleppo from the rebel stronghold of Idlib.

US Forces: 3 American Service Members Killed in Afghanistan
The war in Afghanistan began weeks after the 9/11 terror attacks, and the American death toll from the war has exceeded 2,200. Special Operations troops often partnering with Afghan commandos to target the Islamic State and, occasionally, al-Qaeda.

On Saturday, militants from terrorist groups fired chlorine-filled shells at neighborhoods of al-Khalidiye and Al Zahraa as well as the Nile Street. There are no deaths, al-Shali said.

The government accused rebels of using gas in a 2013 attack on Khan al-Assal, a village south-west of Aleppo city, that killed 25 people.

The Syrian regime has regained control of much of the country over the past few years, but Idlib has remained a bastion of rebel support.

In addition to this, the governor of Aleppo, Hussein Diyab, reported an increase in the number of injured civilians in the attack, saying that this is confirmation of the possession of chemical weapons by terrorists, Sputnik reported.

He told state TV that a total of 41 people (later revised to 50) had been admitted and accused rebels of using poisonous gas in the missiles they lobbed at the Aleppo neighbourhood.

A rebel alliance in nearby Idlib denied any involvement in the alleged attack.

"We at the National Liberation Front deny the criminal, lying regime's allegations that revolutionaries targeted the city of Aleppo with any missiles and especially not any containing chlorine gas", it said.

Al-Buraykat, the settlement mentioned in the Russian statement, is not included in maps. The civilians and active Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups told Anadolu Agency that they didn't know about any place addressed as "Al-Buraykat".

Over the course of Syria s war, global human rights groups have repeatedly accused the regime of carrying out chemical attacks.

Announcing the demilitariazation agreement in September, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the creation of a 15- to 20-kilometer (approximately nine to 12 miles) demilitarized zone would prevent a "humanitarian crisis" in the northwestern province.

A year ago and in April, the allegations caused the United States to carry out punitive strikes in Syria.
