American Bar Association seeks delay in Brett Kavanaugh nomination

After yesterday's testimony from both U.S. supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and university professor Dr Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused him of sexual assault, today we are expecting senators to hold a vote.

Before the Senate has even voted on whether or not to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Democrats have begun talking about impeaching him from the court.

In the committee's packed hearing room for hour upon hour Thursday, both Kavanaugh and Ford said the alleged assault and the storm of controversy that has erupted 36 years later had altered their lives forever and for the worse - perhaps the only thing they agreed on during their separate testimony marked by a stark contrast of tone and substance.

"I categorically and unequivocally deny the allegation by Dr. Ford", Kavanaugh said in an opening statement during which his voice shook with anger, repeatedly fighting back tears. Ford, and at least two other women, have come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh.

"I am innocent of this charge", Kavanaugh thundered.

Kavanaugh vowed to continue his bid to join the high court, to which President Donald Trump nominated him in July. Ford, a psychology professor, acted as her own expert witness, clinically detailing her own trauma with terms like "sequela" - the aftereffect of an injury - in a testimony laden with heavy and powerful moments.

Republicans quickly scheduled a recommendation vote for Friday morning in the Senate Judiciary Committee, where they hold an 11-10 majority.

She cries into the screen, claiming to have only wanted to help the children she thought were being kidnapped. Instead of just leaving the family alone, Lohan appears to follow after them, and her tune begins to change.

"As a recovering alcoholic and a cancer survivor, I have struggled with depression and anxiety", his letter said.

"This confirmation process has become a national disgrace", he said. Deborah Ramirez, who came forward with sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, has been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to a statement from her attorney, John Clune.

"Many of those callers, Berkowitz said, had stories that mirrored Ford's: They wanted to talk about events that had happened years before".

"Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter", said Ford, who is a research psychologist, "the uproarious laughter between the two".

Through the final stretch of the hearing, Mitchell was not given the opportunity to probe Kavanaugh's testimony as she was with Ford's.

THE FACTS: The witness statements in question do not corroborate Ford's allegations, but they also do not exonerate Kavanaugh.

While Ford said she came forward to give the senators an understanding of Kavanaugh's character as they examined him for a seat in the country's apex court. A successful committee vote is not essential to send a nomination to the floor.

UK Labour to vote on second Brexit poll
But some Tory moderates had hoped that, faced with the prospect of no deal, some Labour MPs would vote with the Government. In his party conference speech, Sir Keir will say: "I know that people want clarity on where we stand on the deal now".

Judge directed the letter, "under penalty of felony", to Chairman of the Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Diane Feinstein, through his attorney Barbara Van Gelder.

That prompted Feinstein to protest, blaming the leak to the media or "beach friends" with whom Ford testified she discussed the claims. Ms Ford says Mr Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge was present when the alleged attack occurred. The Democrats have chosen to question Kavanaugh and Ford directly.

"I did not ask to be involved in this matter nor did anyone ask me to be involved", the letter said, and referred to his previous letter sent on September 18. Ford says the assault took place at a gathering in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C.

Several Republican senators accused Democrats of trying to delay Kavanaugh's nomination until November in the hopes of capturing control of the Senate.

Democrats' tactics were "the most unethical sham", he said in a fiery speech. "And it would be hard to justify - these allegations are coming up about him, but not other people - how do they justify putting him in such an important role?"

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC also mentioned the ABA's assessment during an impassioned defense of Kavanaugh on Thursday.
