Google Search Gets New Activity Cards

Google Search Wants To Answer Your Questions Even Before You Ask Them

Ben Gomes, vice president of search, news and Google Assistant, explained in a post that the company has begun to move away from answers and toward journeys, from search queries and toward query-less discovery based on artificial intelligence, and from text to more visual ways of finding content.

Earlier this month, Google had launched a new search engine for the scientific community that will help them make sense of millions of datasets present online. Now, Google Lens will be integrated into image search as well. Tapping on the topic lets you explore that specific topic, providing more articles relevant to that topic, including videos and more visual content.

The first feature is closely related to Google's AMP Stories, an open-source library that allows publishers to make web-based flipbooks equipped with different graphics, animations, videos and audios. For example, if a user searches for a particular interest such as cycling, content related to cycling will appear in their feed and Google will show the user a way of adding hiking as an interest.

UK Labour to vote on second Brexit poll
But some Tory moderates had hoped that, faced with the prospect of no deal, some Labour MPs would vote with the Government. In his party conference speech, Sir Keir will say: "I know that people want clarity on where we stand on the deal now".

Now, the Google Images algorithm will rank fresher content higher on the feed.

"Starting this week, we'll also show more context around images, including captions that show you the title of the webpage where each image is published". This means it may surface content that's not "new to the web, but are new to you". The Activity Cards can be disabled whenever a user wants as these will come as an opt-in feature. Also improving image results is Google Lens integration, which can scan the image (or part of it) and tell you more about it.

After completely rebranding Google Feed, it's Google Images' turn to get a makeover. From there, Google will offer content suggestions if it notices a pattern in the type of content being saved.

Featured Videos is another new feature. Most recently, the European Union created laws that specifically require Google to "forget" people if requested.

"We see billions of queries every day, and 15 percent of queries are ones we've never seen before", Google executives said in a statement. Suggestions pop up in Collections too, so you can dive deeper.

The commemoration of Google's 20 anniversary is also bringing improvements to image searches. Google is able to parse the content of videos to present purely relevant snippets in a useful way in search, connecting content to categories and topics.

Instagram Cofounders Systrom, Krieger To Exit 09/26/2018
Systrom did not say why he and Krieger are leaving Facebook, which is facing one of the most turbulent times in its history. Instagram attracts a younger cohort of users who are critical to Facebook's growth.

Google has been the sultan of search for a very long time now, and through the years it has constantly been tweaking things, adding features, and generally just looking to stay in front of the pack.
