'TOTALLY POLITICAL': Trump defends Kavanaugh after second allegation

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh

The New Yorker identifies the woman as 53-year-old Deborah Ramirez.

Democrats in the United States Senate are investigating a new bombshell allegation of sexual misconduct against President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, The New Yorker said Sunday (Sept 23).

"This alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen", Kavanaugh said in a statement to the New Yorker about Ramirez's account.

The offices of at least four Democratic senators have received information about the allegation, and at least two have begun investigating it.

But he also said that Professor Christine Blasey Ford, who is accusing Kavanaugh, should be heard, ahead of her expected testimony on Thursday.

He continued, "For people to come out of the woodwork from 36 years ago and 30 years ago and never mention it, all of a sudden it happens, in my opinion, it's totally political".

Once there, they repaired and replaced roofs, windows and doors, in addition to sanitizing and removing mold from homes. Among them was a group of artists unveiling an exhibition called simply, "6:15 A.M".

Mr Kavanaugh denied the incident occurred, calling it "a smear, plain and simple".

Kavanaugh, who strongly denies the assault allegation, has said he wishes to testify as soon as possible to clear his name from Ford's claims that he attacked her at a high school party in the 1980s.

The agreement and the latest accusation set the stage for a dramatic showdown as Kavanaugh and Ford each tell their side of the story.

You can read all of the New York Times report here.

As he builds a case for his innocence, Mr Kavanaugh plans to turn over to the committee calendars from the summer of 1982.

David Young, and Gov. Kim Reynolds, rallied the almost 700 Christians in the crowd behind Kavanaugh, the Des Moines Register reported, as Iowa's senior senator, Judiciary Chairman Charles E. Grassley, negotiates the conditions of a public hearing this Thursday with the nominee's accuser, California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford.

The New Yorker story has come under fire for its reporting after the New York Times said its reporters had interviewed "several dozen people over the past week in an attempt to corroborate her story, and could find no one with first-hand knowledge". "The White House stands firmly behind Judge Kavanaugh", she added. "The only reason I am involved is that Dr. Christine Blasey Ford remembers me as the other person in the room during the alleged assault". Ford says she feared Kavanaugh might inadvertently kill her before she managed to get away. Dianne Feinstein, sent a letter to Trump on Sunday saying the Federal Bureau of Investigation has more than enough time before Ford and Kavanaugh testify on Thursday.

In an email exchange between the committee and Ford's lawyers obtained by The Associated Press, a counsel for Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley wrote that the terms over which witnesses to call and questioning are "non-negotiable".

Three of those senators - Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota - voted for Trump's first nominee to the Supreme Court Neil Gorsuch.

Scrambling to respond, the White House and Kavanaugh issued swift denials of the report.

Christine Blasey Ford said on Wednesday that she may not come forward because she has been overwhelmed by media requests. Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley had invited the woman-Dr. "If she shows up, that would be wonderful".
