United defence for accused pick for Trump top job Brett Kavanaugh

Ford Willing to Testify With Restrictions Next Thursday

A substantial delay could push confirmation past the November elections, when Democrats have a shot at winning Senate control, plus allow more time for unforeseen problems to crop up.

Even so, Democrats have accused Republicans of "bullying" Ford into testifying, the very thing her lawyers said on Monday that she wanted to do.

The Senate Judiciary Committee had delayed a vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation after Ford's allegations emerged last week.

"I'm shocked and appalled by the Republicans' refusal to wait 24 hours for a hearing and instead rush forward with a vote on Monday". The White House. Judge Kavanaugh has not asked to have the FBI investigate these claims.

But in a single tweet, President Donald Trump appears to have upended that strategy.

Mohamed Salah: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp not expecting goals repeat
A year ago he missed chances. "We don't expect that but we want him to score as often as possible". Yet the Reds boss said that he couldn't be happier with his star man.

The Post reported that Democratic aides have said Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee "are likely to pose questions" about Kavanaugh's involvement in Whelan's claims "directly to Kavanaugh, when he is under oath".

"We know that allegations of sexual assault are one of the most under-reported crimes that exist", Collins said. "So I thought that the president's tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong".

McConnell described Kavanaugh as a "stunning individual" to the crowd, which represents one of the top gatherings for social conservatives in the country.

Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand denounced Trump's comments on Friday as a "vile attack". Dr. Ford has asked me to let you know that she appreciates the various options you have suggested.

Accused of sexual assault, his friends and former colleagues are now mounting a united defence, painting a portrait of an innocent family man.

It added that Israeli planes were already in Israeli airspace when Syria fired the missiles that hit the Russian plane. However, he insisted the Russian plane had been felled by "extensive and inaccurate Syrian anti-aircraft (fire)".

"Mr. Kavanaugh's record does not demonstrate a commitment to legal precedent that protects working families", Walker and Mallott said in the joint statement, remarks that could put political pressure on Murkowski. Ford told the Washington Post earlier this week that she did not tell her parents, or anyone else, about the alleged assault in its immediate aftermath-she was afraid to tell them she had been at a party where there had been underage drinking. "We're going to plow right through it and do our job".

McConnell's confident prediction of Kavanaugh's impending confirmation came as the nomination seemed to be gaining momentum.

"I don't think you can delay it any longer", Mr. Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity at a rally in Nevada on Thursday.

The late-night brinkmanship left in question whether Ford, a California psychology professor, would appear before the GOP-run committee and tell lawmakers and a captivated nation about her allegation that an inebriated Kavanaugh trapped her on a bed, muffled her cries and tried removing her clothes when both were teenagers in the 1980s. "The Chairman has offered the ability for Dr. Ford to testify in an open session, a closed session, a public staff interview, and a private staff interview", the offer letter explains. A person familiar with the call said Ford could testify by next Thursday. Meanwhile, women on social media shared their own reasons for never filing a report after an assault, using the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport - causing it to trend No. 1 on Twitter Friday. After setting a sudden 10:00 PM deadline for agreement with his terms and rejecting further talks with Ford or her lawyers, Grassley has reportedly scheduled a Committee vote on the confirmation for Monday. Ford, Conway said, should not be ignored or insulted and should be heard. GOP senators who'd voiced concern about Ford's charges had stopped short of expressing opposition to Kavanaugh, and growing numbers of Republicans said it was about time to vote.

Trump chose Kavanaugh to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. Her lawyers say she has received death threats .
