Jet Airways flight loses cabin pressure, passengers suffer bleeding

Plane passengers suffer nose & ear bleeding as crew ‘forgot’ to maintain cabin pressure

Passengers on a Jet Airways flight in India suffered nosebleeds and ear pain after the flight crew reportedly forgot to flick a switch to maintain air pressure on the plane.

Hindustan Times quotes Lalit Gupta of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), who said that "thirty out of 166 passengers experienced nose and ear bleeding, some also complained of headache".

The National Aviator's Guild (NAG) on Friday said it is "open" to discuss the incident of cabin pressure loss on Jet Airways' Mumbai-Jaipur flight on Thursday, but any premature conclusion blaming the crew should not be reached before the probe is completed. This was because the crew had "forgotten" to turn on the switch to regulate cabin air pressure, which resulted in oxygen masks automatically deploying as well. The airline said it will arrange alternate flights for the passengers.

This is the second incident in a span of a few days involving the safety of air passengers.

Oxygen masks unfurled, and the flight returned to Mumbai approximately 45 minutes after it originally left.
