Woodward: Mattis, Kelly denials of his book quotes on Trump untrue

The New York Times building on Sept. 6 2018

Cohn, the former White House chief economic advisor, and ex-staff secretary Porter are portrayed as having worked together to prevent a poorly informed Trump from making unsound and potentially disastrous decisions involving national security and the economy.

Woodward goes on to say that he's "never seen an instance when the president is so detached from the reality of what's going on".

The daily, which rarely publishes anonymous articles, said it did not disclose the name of the senior official in the Trump administration on the request of the author, whose "identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardised by its disclosure".

The meeting in February will bring together the heads of all national bishops' conferences, from more than 100 countries. The church is facing abuse scandals in the United States, Chile, Australia and Germany, among other places.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, according to Woodward's reporting, also reportedly said that Mr. Trump had the comprehension of "a fifth- or sixth-grader". Woodward said the president's staff tried to explain that this is a defensive measure. While he said the book contained "inaccuracies", as Axios reports, he wasn't specific about what the book supposedly got wrong.

Donald Trump called the writer "gutless" and said the anonymous essay amounted to "treason".

Alas, that was before the president came to the conclusion that Woodward was working for the Dems and that he made quotes up out of whole cloth, which was about the same time that excerpts of Woodward's book began to leak.

It's a far more rigorous approach than, say, a recent, infamous "anonymous" New York Times op-ed from one unnamed senior administration official claiming to be "thwarting Mr. Trump's more misguided impulses", the self-satisfied, political equivalent of a "my job here is done" meme when you consider just how numerous president's impulses get out regardless.

NASA releases footage showing massive Hurricane Florence from space

Also criticizing the book Tuesday was former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who said on Twitter that "a number of the statements attributed to me and from others to me in the Woodward book are incorrect".

Bob Woodward, associate editor of the Washington Post, has recently published an explosive book on the current United States presidency. "It's 1,000-percent correct.' And then this person has said some public things that contradict that", Woodward told the Times" Michael S. Schmidt. The tweets attracted widespread attention and concern - "the Internet lost its collective mind", as Woodward wrote in his book. He left the White House earlier this year amid allegations of domestic abuse, which he has denied. "It's a way to say you're important to this story, I take you seriously".

Christie has rebutted Woodward's claims.
