Apple becomes first United States company worth $1 trillion

Apple Just Broke $1 Trillion Barrier

Apple, the world's most valuable public company, was also the first USA company to reach the $900 billion threshold after breaching the mark in November a year ago.

Behind Apple are Amazon, Google parent Alphabet, Microsoft and Facebook. Chinese oil company PetroChina reached a $1 trillion valuation in 2007 before seeing its value drop to around $260 billion during the global financial crisis of 2008.

Apple Inc (AAPL.O) on Thursday became the first $1 trillion publicly listed US company, crowning a decade-long rise fueled by its ubiquitous iPhone that transformed it from a niche player in personal computers into a global powerhouse spanning entertainment and communications. The $5.89 gain in the stock price on Thursday meant that Apple was worth $1,001,679,220,000.

Apple's stock market value is greater than the combined capitalisation of Exxon Mobil, Procter & Gamble and AT&T.

James' comments were an apparent reference to Trump's continued crusade against NFL players who protest during the national anthem.

Coupled with a lately adjusted outstanding share figure of 4,829,926,000 shares, Apple achieved the trillion dollar milestone earlier than projected, cites CNBC. While year-over-year iPhone sales increased by just 1% this past quarter, iPhone-based revenue jumped by a whopping 20%.

With Apple's fiscal year ending in less than two months (on September 30), it's safe to predict that Cook will get a decent equity payout, although it's hard to say exactly how much.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, called the valuation a "significant milestone" that gave the company "much to be proud of", but said also that the market capitalisation was "not the most important measure" of the company's success.

But Cook has gradually won accolades from investors by pumping out a series of solid financial results and spreading Apple's products to China and other foreign markets.
