Trump says Attorney-General should stop Mueller probe 'right now'

Paul Manafort trial offers glimpse into what Robert Mueller actually has in his investigation

Viktor Yanukovych is the former pro-Russia president of Ukraine. He denied allegations that Manafort had tried to hide his earnings by storing money in bank accounts in Cyprus, saying that arrangement was not of Manafort's doing but was instead the preferred method of payment of the supporters of the pro-Russia Ukrainian political party who were paying his consulting fees.

Manafort is also charged in federal court in Washington with undisclosed foreign lobbying and money laundering.

The judge in Paul Manafort's financial fraud trial warned prosecutors Wednesday against using the word "oligarchs" to describe wealthy Ukrainians, and admonished them for spending so much time documenting the former Trump campaign chairman's extravagant lifestyle.

Manafort, he said, always paid via wire transfer from banks in Cyprus, which is where prosecutors say Manafort hid loads of cash he made in Ukraine. Prosecutors say he falsely indicated he didn't have bank accounts in foreign countries and underreported his earnings to limit his taxable income.

Of Manafort's associates, like longtime deputy Rick Gates, Zehnle said, "he trusted them to speak with one another and make sure things were done right".

Manafort has pleaded not guilty.

Both men were top officials in Trump's campaign, but that is not part of the criminal case against Manafort in this trial. CNN reports the charges against Manafort state $75 million flowed through offshore accounts managed by Manafort and his former business partner, Rick Gates. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 305 years in prison.

Manafort, 69, was wearing a black suit, white shirt and a tie.

Destructive California fires could be 'the new normal'
Alyce Macken said she had only minutes to flee with her husband Ted from the flames sweeping closer to her home in Redding. Despite the improved mood, a sixth person was killed in the fire, according to Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko.

The prosecution said in court it is moving ahead of schedule and intends to rest its case sometime next week.

The opening statements were delivered not long after the jury was selected and sworn in on Tuesday. That left a jury of 12 and four additional alternate jurors, who were sworn in as Mr. Manafort looked on wearing a dark suit.

The pool was also almost evenly split between men and women. Most were comfortably middle-aged.

Overall, anti-fraud investigators at Wells Fargo, following a tip from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, flagged almost $300,000 in "suspicious" transactions by Butina and Erickson, saying in some cases the activity had no "apparent economic, business, or lawful objective". He says agents spotted Manafort inside after they entered.

"A man in this courtroom believed the law did not apply to him".

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's trial got underway this morning in Virginia. "This trial obviously centers on matters that have nothing to do with the campaign".

Judge Ellis brought up an evidentiary issue regarding the testimony of first witness Daniel Rabin, one of Manafort's long-serving associates in the Ukraine.

Mugabe refuses to endorse Zanu PF because they ‘tormented’ him
But there is consensus that the process has been better than before. Chamisa is also due to give a press conference later Sunday. "Mr. Mugabe's wishes are his wishes".

"All this document shows is that Mr. Manafort had a lavish lifestyle".

Among the items recovered were invoices related to Manafort's work with Gates.

Asonye said Manafort didn't just lie to the Internal Revenue Service.

"The government doesn't want to prosecute someone for wearing nice clothes", he said at one point, pushing the prosecutors to move on.

Tuesday's ruling from a three-judge panel on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals was unanimous. He pleaded not guilty to these allegations, and the case is scheduled to go to trial in mid-September.

Manafort has used similar arguments to challenge his indictments in Virginia and Washington. He was Manafort's top client until he was removed from power and fled to Russian Federation in 2014.

Rudy Giuliani, a lawyer for Trump, said no one facing trial should expect a pardon, but he did not rule one out.
