Thomas thanks Froome ahead of yellow jersey triumph

Video Geraint Thomas

Geraint Thomas holds the yellow jersey and has a moderate lead over his Sky teammate Chris Froome, who is seeking to win his fourth consecutive Tour de France and further strengthen his dominance of road cycling as the current holder of all three Grand Tour titles, the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España.

However, Welshman Thomas grasped control of the race during the mountain stages in the Alps and controlled his lead ever since, holding off a sustained challenge from Tom Dumoulin.

Geraint Thomas produced a near flawless performance to become the third British and Team Sky rider to triumph after Bradley Wiggins (2012) and Chris Froome (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017).

He joined the fledgling Team Sky in 2010 and was given a freer rein in one-day races but has mainly been used as a domestique - a rider who sacrifices his own chances in the service of a team leader - for Froome in each of his four Tour victories, and before this year his best finish had been 15th, twice.

"It doesn't feel like anything I have experienced".

Dumoulin is a world time trial champion and couldn't afford to be ruled out by Thomas.

Twitter falls by $6bn after losing 1m users
Dorsey told analysts Twitter had a "solid quarter" and suggested that daily usage was a better measure of its future growth. Twitter's dip in user numbers renewed old concerns that its audience will be forever stalled around the 300 million mark.

"The way he did get the gap was a little surprising. but I didn't actually see it myself".

Emyr, from Denbigh, is in Paris to cheer and congratulate his nephew-in-law to Tour de France glory.

Thomas' victory will come as a relief for Sky, especially in the wake of Froome's popularity nose-diving in France after he was cleared of a doping offence months after testing positive for excessive levels of an asthma drug.

Tour de France victor Great Britain's Geraint Thomas celebrates on the podium after the 21st and last stage of the 105th edition of the Tour de France cycling race in Paris, July 29, 2018.

Former ski jumper Roglic tried to drop Thomas several times in the last climb up to the Col d'Aubisque but the Team Sky rider kept his composure and controlled the situation throughout. "When I crossed the line and realised I'd won there is just so many emotions", he said.

"The last time I cried was when I got married and I don't know what's happened to me".

Iran Says Red Sea No Longer Safe for US Navy
Soleimani called Trump a "gambler" and said his language belongs in "nightclubs". You may begin a war, but it is us who will end it.

"All I can say is that I do it the right way", Thomas said when asked about concerns of alleged doping within Sky. "Don't know what's happening to me".

Dumoulin, who rides for the Sunweb team, finished his campaign on a high after winning the penultimate stage time trial.

"I believed I could beat the guys here, but still on the biggest stage, over three weeks, it's insane".

"I can finally let the emotion come". Not this time. From that point he rode the most brilliant Tour, tactically astute but also sensitive to Froome's situation.

"Because we've been teammates and friends for so long, it made it easier to communicate honestly", Froome said. "I think this has been the most emotional of all our victories".

American rider Lawson Craddock, who broke his shoulder in the opening stage and sits last overall, also broke down into tears upon reaching the finish.
