Ahed Tamimi relased from Israeli jail, promising to continue the resistance

TPSAhed Tamimi released from

Tamimi, who was already prominent due to her defiance of Israeli soldiers, swiftly became a symbol of the protest movement against Israeli occupation of the West Bank.

The 17-year-old served an eight-month prison term for slapping and kicking Israeli soldiers.

The incident came just after Tamimi learned her cousin had been gravely wounded by an Israeli soldier who shot him in the head using a rubber-coated steel bullet.

Her supporters see a courageous girl who struck two armed soldiers in frustration after learning that Israeli troops had seriously wounded a 15-year-old cousin, shooting him in the head from close range with a rubber bullet during nearby stone-throwing clashes.

Her father, Bassem Tamimi, said he expected her to take a lead in the struggle against Israeli occupation but she was also weighing college options.

White House: N. Korea returns remains of American soldiers
However, he said Kim needed to follow through on his summit commitments to denuclearise. An estimated 5,300 USA troops are still unaccounted for in North Korea.

In the wake of the assault, Education Minister Naftali Bennet said he would like to see her in jail for the rest of her life, while another MP said he would like to "hit her in the face".

In Nabi Saleh, supporters welcomed Tamimi home Sunday with Palestinian flags planted on the roof of her home.

Ahed was arrested in December after she slapped two Israeli soldiers outside her family home.

Her case sparked an outpouring of global criticism against Israel and a renewed focus on the treatment of Palestinian youths in Israeli military courts.

Tamimi's family arrived at a checkpoint in the West Bank, where they spoke briefly to reporters before heading to their home village of Nebi Saleh.

"The resistance continues until the occupation is removed", Ahed said. Local human rights groups say more than 300 minors are now being held. "All the female prisoners in jail are strong, and I thank everyone who stood by me while I was in prison".

An Israeli police spokesman did not return a call for comment.
