House Conservatives File to Impeach Rod Rosenstein

House Republicans have criticised Rod Rosenstein for not being responsive enough as they have requested documents

Rosenstein has been in the crosshairs of conservative Republicans - as well as Trump - for a number of reasons, including his role supervising special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

Republicans claimed in the resolution that Rosenstein had improperly refused to hand over documents requested by Republican members of Congress investigating claims of bias and corruption at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to Politico reporter Rachael Bade, the men chose to file it as a "privileged resolution," so that they don't have to force a vote on the House floor for the impeachment. Jim Jordan of OH and Mark Meadows of North Carolina, according to a release by Jordan's office.

Democrats have argued that House Republicans' clashes with Rosenstein are little more than a pretext to weaken Mueller's efforts.

"The DOJ is keeping information from Congress", Jordan said, referring to the Department of Justice.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they were acting on a request from the U.S. , the United Kingdom and other European nations. But Mr Assad's opponents see them as heroes for their rescue work in bombed, rebel-held cities.

Rosenstein is accused violating Congressional subpoenas by withholding requested documents pertaining to Mueller's ongoing investigation and for allegedly abusing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, through which warrants against Trump campaign aide Carter Page were issued previous year.

In the statement Meadows said lawmakers' complaints had been ignored for too long and it was time to remove Rosenstein from the position of deputy attorney general.

A spokeswoman for the Justice Department said she had no comment on the articles of impeachment.

Republican leaders, however, have said in recent weeks that they are satisfied with the Justice Department's progress. They're angry that the Justice Department hasn't agreed to appoint a second special counsel to investigate the first, in Mueller.

House oversight and government reform chairman Trey Gowdy said after the meeting that he was pleased with the department's efforts and wouldn't support Rosenstein's impeachment.

Meadows and Jordan are leaders of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, a bloc whose members have been among the most persistent critics of Rosenstein.

Democrats have criticized the Republican efforts to pressure the Justice Department, saying they are attempts to undermine Mueller's investigation.

Later that month, Rosenstein appointed him to investigate alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 election in the Mueller Investigation.

So far, the special counsel has charged 32 people and three companies. The president reportedly considered firing Rosenstein last summer.
