Amazon's hopes its Prime Day doesn't go to the dogs

Amazon Prime Day 2018: Best deals so far including TVs, Fitbit and Echo Show

It turns out that Amazon's technical glitch Monday that prevented Prime Day shoppers in the US from accessing the online store for a few hours didn't hamper the e-commerce giant's biggest sales promotion of the year.

The deals begin on Monday July 16 at noon PT (3 p.m. ET) and last through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. PT (Wednesday, 2:59 a.m. ET). Eastern time, according to Downdetector.com, which monitors web trouble.

Feedvisor estimated spending skyrocketed 89 percent in the first 12 hours of the event, even despite widespread outages on Amazon.com, compared with the same period previous year, Bloomberg reported.

In a tweet the Amazon said it was working to resolve the issues quickly.

Boris Johnson keeps powder dry - for now
Eurosceptic Conservatives are planning to vote against the government on several amendments to the trade bill. More wobbles, after the high-profile resignations, could leave the prime minister in a very fragile position.

Having touched a record high that valued the company at $900 billion, nearly double than a year ago, shares in Amazon fell back to trade marginally lower on Wednesday.

Amazon did not address the problems this morning.

After the United States, Germany is Amazon's second largest national market. Amazon is surely still looking into the issue.

The Verdi union also said workers in Spain were staging a three-day strike, while Polish workers were staging a work to rule. Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and Echo Dot were the best-selling devices. "The outage is especially problematic as many of Amazon's Prime deals are promoted for a set window of time - something that could cause a great deal of frustration for potential customers".

In Britain rejected the possibility of a new referendum on Brexit
She said that would remove Britain's ability to have an independent trade policy and her government "will never stand for that". In a press conference after their talks Friday, Mr Trump said it had been a suggestion rather than advice.

With such a successful 36 hours, it will be interesting to see what Amazon can do next year - provided there are no more technological glitches.

"For all the hype about Whole Foods, the grocery stuff on sale was less appetizing", said Sucharita Mulpuru-Kodali, an analyst at Forrester Research. "Unless this is way beyond their wildest expectations, it's just odd".

'There are hundreds of thousands of deals to come and more than 34 hours to shop Prime Day'.

How big is Prime Day? Many other Amazon devices followed suit with $40 off the Amazon Echo (2nd Generation), $40 off the Echo Spot and significant discounts to Fire tablets and Kindle Paperwhite, too. It had more sign-ups during 2017's event than any other day in the company's history, Amazon said at the time, without providing specific numbers.
