Russia wants to interrogate Mc Faul over Browder's case

President Donald Trump on July 17 moved to limit the damage from his summit with Vladimir Putin, claiming he misspoke in appearing to accept the Russian leader's denial of election meddling - in a rebuke to USA intelligence chiefs.

The Presidents of Russia and the USA did not arrive at any secret agreements during their summit in Finland, the Russian Ambassador to the United States said on Wednesday.

At their meeting in Helsinki on July 16, Mr. Trump failed to challenge Mr. Putin over the 2016 presidential election, seeming to accept at face value the strongman's denial that Moscow interfered in a bid to undermine Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trump said: "All I can do is ask the question".

One user said Melania "was the only one in the room who understands how risky this man actually is", referring to Putin.

Trump then added that "it could be other people also, there's a lot of people out there". "So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself". Lindsey Graham said there was a "big discrepancy" between the president's statement and U.S. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats' assessments of Russian Federation. It would have just made things worse if I had stood next to him and called him a liar.

However, Mr Trump found support from Republican Senator Rand Paul, who blamed "Trump derangement syndrome" for the criticism - prompting a supportive tweet from the president himself.

In Helsinki, Putin said he had indeed wanted Trump to win the election - a revelation that might have made more headlines if not for Trump's performance - but had taken no action to make it happen.

"The warning lights are blinking red again", Coats said last week.
