Democrats' Attacks on Trump's SCOTUS Pick Aren't Serious--and They Aren't Working

Brett Kavanaugh appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee in April 2004

President Trump's U.S. Supreme Court nominee is already causing partisan divides among Republicans and Democrats.

The letter criticizes the jurist's record.

Trump, speaking less than 11 hours after a prime-time event to unveil his new Supreme Court nominee, said Kavanaugh has received "great reviews" from the legal community. The letter states 'We write today as Yale Law students, alumni, and educators ashamed of our alma mater. The signatories accuse the law school of placing its proximity to power and prestige first, and assert 'Judge Kavanaugh's nomination presents an emergency - for democratic life, for our safety and freedom, for the future of our country'.

"Most of the court's business cases are not 5-4", said Ilya Shapiro, a senior fellow in constitutional studies at the libertarian Cato Institute, referring to the narrow votes that often emerge in contentious cases.

King said the other reason is that the person will replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, considered the swing vote on the court.

And when Williams took the court for the second set, she did indeed look calm and composed - and roared back with a vengeance. Williams is seeded 25th after returning from having a baby, but is looking like her usual dominant self on the grass courts.

In addition to working in the White House Counsel's office under Bush, Kavanaugh also worked for independent counsel Kenneth Starr's investigation into the death of Clinton aide Vince Foster and the Monica Lewinsky probe that led to President Bill Clinton's impeachment.

"We're not fooled by the argument that Kavanaugh isn't a "bomb-thrower" or that he's made no extreme controversial rulings", read another tweet.

"Sen. Jeff Flake said in a statement: "As I have said before, approving a nominee who will interpret the constitution rather than legislate from the bench should be our top priority".

As a Supreme Court justice, Kavanaugh would make about $255,300 per year.

"(Kavanaugh) is an extremely qualified candidate who should be considered based on merit, not politics", said Davis, a Republican from Taylorville who represents part of Bloomington-Normal.

Nirbhaya rape case: Amnesty says executions don't eradicate crime against women
The brutal crime had sparked widespread protests and drew global attention over violence against women in India. A juvenile accused was convicted by a juvenile justice board.

With the bark off, Booker suggested that Trump, in selecting the federal district of appeals judge, was handing himself a get-out-of-jail-free card in the ongoing investigation into possible Trump campaign collusion in the Russian elections meddling scandal.

It appears that if confirmed, Kavanaugh would be the least wealthy justice.

"Having seen first-hand how complex and hard that job is, I believe it vital that the President be able to focus on his never-ending tasks with as few distractions as possible", he wrote. His financial disclosures reveal that his assets are worth between $15,000 to $65,000, placing him at the lowest amongst Supreme Court Justices in terms of net worth - or about 10 times less than Justice Clarence Thomas, who now holds the title. The only current sitting Democratic senator to vote for confirmation, Delaware Sen.

This recent news regarding Kennedy's retirement comes just after the 2017-2018 Supreme Court session.

The Republicans and conservatives want to complete their agenda, too, but they don't want to make a superlegislature of the Supreme Court.
