Theresa May faces guerilla tactics from Brexit rebels

Boris Johnson and David Davis

Johnson's departure on Monday comes a day after David Davis, the British minister in charge of Brexit negotiations, also stepped down.

The British public no longer has faith in Theresa May to negotiate Brexit, with two in three saying they do not trust her to get the best possible deal, a Sky Data poll reveals.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will publish details Thursday of her long-awaited Brexit plan to restart talks with the European Union, after facing down a revolt by eurosceptic ministers that could still unseat her.

May must now move quickly to try to win the EU's support for her Brexit proposal to unblock talks.

"The government now has a song to sing", he said. "The trouble is that I have practised the words over the weekend and find they stick in the throat", he wrote to May.

For the time being, May's saving grace may well be that the United Kingdom premiership is a poisoned chalice that no serious politician-even Johnson-should want until Brexit is over and done with.

Microsoft launches smaller, cheaper Surface Go Tablet
In that sense, the announcement of the slightly smaller Surface Go is just picking up where the Surface 3 left off. Microsoft is selling the Surface Go at the relatively approachable starting price of $399 (£379, about AU$539).

Assuming May can survive the attempts of Brexit zealots to force her from office, her future and that of the country will depend on the response of Europe's leaders.

The delay has been partly blamed on deep disagreements within the Conservative Party over what shape Brexit should take. But within 48 hours Davis had quit and Johnson followed.

Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab is insisting the much-anticipated Government white paper setting out its exit aims is practical and respects the referendum result while backing business.

If a further 47 Conservative MPs send in letters it will trigger a vote of confidence in the leader.

A Downing Street spokesman confirmed that if pushed to a confidence vote, May would not resign. Her party is divided into hard-and-soft Brexit factions and she has the impossible task of keeping them on the same page.

Her proposal would see Britain adopt European Union rules for trade in goods after Brexit, but maintain flexibility for its key services sector and end freedom of movement. "But. who knows?", he added, wondering if Britain might reject the divorce.

Pompeo shrugs off 'gangster' rebuke from North Korea
North Korea also accused the United States of trivializing the significance of suspending military exercises with South Korea. China is North Korea's closest partner but had previously helped the USA exert pressure on Kim over his nuclear program.

Mr Coveney said there hadn't been a clear British negotiating position for many months.

Davis said his job required "an enthusiastic believer in your approach, and not merely a reluctant conscript".

But prominent Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg described it as a "breakdown in trust" and said Mrs May must now U-turn or be forced to rely on Labour votes to get her legislation through Parliament.

She earlier faced her critics at a packed meeting of backbench Conservative MPs, many of whom share Mr Johnson's concerns about her Brexit stance.

While the theatre for prosecuting this new diplomatic virtual war to reacquire independence for Britain was the European Union headquarters in Brussels, it has now spread its tentacles to Westminster, to the Labour Party, the DUP coalition partner, Conservatives, the media, the business community, and the people themselves who conducted a million-people march against Brexit through the streets of London recently.
