After talks, NKorea accuses USA of 'gangster-like' demands

Pompeo meets with North Korea's former spy chief on nuclear weapons to build 'trust'

Pompeo's latest trip to North Korea has drawn particular attention because it was the first high-level meeting to discuss specific steps to denuclearize the North following the historic summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12.

North Korea said it offered to discuss the closure of a missile engine test site, which would "physically affirm" a move to halt the production of intercontinental range ballistic missiles, and setting up working-level discussions for the return of USA war remains.

The U.S. delegation left Pyongyang later in the day, with the Secretary of State due to hold a three-way press conference in Tokyo with South Korean and Japanese counterparts on Sunday.

North Korea calls talks with the United States "regrettable" while Secretary of State Pompeo says the discussions were productive; former US ambassador to the U.N. Bill Richardson weighs in on 'Sunday Morning Futures'.

It dismissed Trump's unilateral order to suspend joint USA and South Korean war games as a cosmetic and "highly reversible" measure and criticised U.S. negotiators who "never mentioned" the subject of bringing the 1953 Korean War to a formal end with a peace treaty.

Kim made a broad commitment in Singapore to "work toward denuclearization" but did not give details on how or when he would dismantle North Korea's nuclear program.

Thai official: 4 boys brought out of cave Monday
When the boys are freed, they will immediately be taken to Chiangrai Prachanukroh hospital, around 60 miles from the cave site. The world has been hooked on the fate of the group of Thai boys trapped in a cave and the heroic attempts to rescue them .

Pompeo said the North Korea diplomats "did not push back" in his discussions with them in Pyongyang. According to the report, North Korea may be intentionally trying to "deceive the U.S." by continuing these efforts in secret facilities. It said the US side had shown little interest, giving "certain conditions and excuses". He said: "I'm counting on Chairman Kim to be determined to follow through on the commitment that he made".

In practical terms, Pompeo mentioned only that officials from both sides would meet on July 12 as a working group to discuss the repatriation of the remains of some United States soldiers killed during the 1950-1953 Korean War.

Lawmakers are asking what comes next if talks between the USA and North Korea break down, and are looking back to pre-summit practices. "Some places a great deal of progress, other places there's still more work to be done", he said.

Just before Pompeo's arrival, the North's state-run media slammed Washington over its criticism of the North's human rights record.

Today's meeting follows three hours of talks at the Baekhwawon state guest house in Pyongyang on Friday, following the US delegation's arrival in Pyongyang just before noon. "But this expectation and hope of ours were so naive as to be gullible".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was in Pyongyang at the weekend to try to flesh out the process, only for the North to warn that it was being jeopardised by overbearing "gangster-like" U.S. demands.

Trump to Unveil Court Pick Monday
Trump will announce his nominee for the seat in a characteristic display of political braggadocio on primetime TV on Monday night. And analysts say Trump's latest pick for the court could provide the fifth vote needed to rescind Roe v.

The US president and North Korean strongman met in Singapore nearly a month ago for an unprecedented summit between sitting leaders of the two countries, which resulted in a general joint declaration that did not include a timetable or concrete commitments from North Korea on denuclearization.

"The settlement of outstanding issues surrounding North Korea, including nuclear, missile and abduction, will be extremely important to Japan, and that will also be extremely important for regional peace and stability", Abe said at the outset of the talks.

Unlike his previous visits, which have been one-day affairs during which he has met Kim Jong-un, Pompeo spent the night at a government guesthouse in Pyongyang and did not see the North Korean leader, although U.S. officials had suggested such a meeting was expected.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert tweeted that Pompeo spoke briefly before leaving Pyongyang.

The discoveries have further undercut Trump's assertion that North Korea was "no longer a nuclear threat".
