Trump to order flags flown at half-staff to honor Capital Gazette victims

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick

Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley told The Baltimore Sun on Monday that Trump had denied his request for flags to be flown at half-staff in wake of the mass shooting in Annapolis, Maryland, that killed five newspaper staffers.

The flag of the United States flies at half-staff over the White House in Washington, Tuesday, July 3, 2018, to honor the five people killed in the Annapolis, Maryland, shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper.

Jarrod Warren Ramos, 38, is accused of walking into the office of the newspaper on Thursday and shooting dead five employees with a shotgun. The victims were identified as Rebecca Smith, Rob Hiaasen, Wendi Winters, Gerald Fischman and John McNamara.

Marquardt said he once slept with a baseball bat by his bed because he was so anxious about Ramos.

Teamsters Support Canada's Retaliatory Tariffs
US manufacturers that sell in Canada include Larson Boats of Minnesota and Brunswick Corp. of Lake Forest, Illinois. Ujczo doubts Trump will announce auto tariffs because that would be a "red line for the U.S.

After outrage began to grow, Trump's press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, called Buckley to say flags would be lowered. Add Maryland Newspaper Shooting as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Maryland Newspaper Shooting news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

But Trump's decision will no doubt raise eyebrows due to his numerous comments attacking the press during his presidency.

A makeshift memorial is seen at the scene outside the office building housing The Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Md., on Sunday.

Buckley was informed Monday afternoon of the decision, even though Gov. Larry Hogan (R) had ordered Maryland state flags lowered from Friday through Monday and Trump had previously ordered flags lowered for other victims of mass shootings.

She told Hartley that she believed she was laid off from her job at a bank because of Ramos' contacts with her employers, and she first contacted police about Ramos in September 2010.

"We won't forget being called an enemy of the people", it continued. Buckley said he was "disappointed". "But as much as I'm going to try to articulate how traumatizing it is to be hiding under your desk, you don't know until you're there and you feel helpless".

"Every day, we talk to people who don't want to make charges", Altomare said. "I loved him dearly", she said. "There was a fear that doing so would exacerbate an already flammable situation", said Timothy Altomare, chief of Anne Arundel county police.

In July 2012, Ramos filed the defamation suit against the Capital Gazette, Hartley and Marquardt.
