Apple to fix 'sticky' keyboard problems for free

Apple Finally Acknowledges Mac Book Keyboard Issues

The company's new "keyboard service program" pledges to replace individual keys and - whenever it's necessary - entire keyboards on certain, more recent MacBook models.

Data collected shows a failure rate of 11.8 percent for 2016 MacBook Pro keyboards with 165 issues out of 1402 samples. I was able to get it fixed for free because I had purchased AppleCare; the repairs could have otherwise cost me more than $700, based on the receipts given to me by Apple with the fix.

If you already paid for your keyboard to get repaired Apple will give you a refund.

The online Apple discussion thread shows some users have reported an issue with the "butterfly" keyboard design since a year ago, with complaints mounting in recent months.

For MacBook users experiencing issues, Apple has posted a support document on its website detailing the new keyboard service programme. Service is free of charge for four years after the first retail sale of the computer.

To use the fix program, eligible MacBook owners need to make an appointment at an Apple store or find an authorized company service provider. The so-called "butterfly" keys allowed for a much lower-profile keyboard with reduced travel distance when pressed.

USA tech giant Apple yesterday agreed to launch a service programme to fix "sticky" keyboard problems for free, reported China's Xinhua news agency.

Apple had created the new butterfly keyboard switch mechanism that was claimed to be 40 percent thinner than the scissor switches used in most keyboards, apart from being more stable.

No clear plan yet on how to reunite parents with children
In May, the Trump administration announced all adults attempting to enter the country illegally would be prosecuted . Despite the new executive order, it's unclear when or how those children will be returned to their parents.

We believe Apple is more likely to continue to refine the existing keyboard design in future laptops to address detractors' complaints than to go back to an earlier design. Earlier this month, 9to5Mac had reported on three separate class-action lawsuits related to the keyboard problems.

Apple forums are overflowing with reports of Geniuses who have told customers that Apple is "collecting data" on the issue.

The type of service will be determined after the keyboard is examined and may involve the replacement of one or more keys or the whole keyboard.
Users can alternatively mail their laptops to the Apple Repair Center.
