Schumer slams GOP immigration reform bill

House Speaker Paul Ryan, although he said he does not agree with separation of immigrant families at the border bla

President Donald Trump "misunderstood the question" he was asked on Fox News Friday morning about a compromise on immigration between centrist and conservative Republicans, the White House said Friday afternoon.

The tumult erupted as Republican leaders put finishing touches on two bills concerning immigration into the United States: a hard-right proposal and a middle-ground plan negotiated by the party's conservative and moderate wings, with White House input.

House Republicans released an immigration proposal Thursday evening, pitched as a "compromise" between hardliners and moderates - but in reality, the bill makes sweeping changes to the immigration system.

In a political maneuver one commentator described as a "monstrous" attempt to "use functionally kidnapped children as literal hostages" to advance an extremist anti-immigrant agenda, House Republicans are circulating a legislative plan that would limit the Trump administration's family separation policy while simultaneously ramming through cuts to legal immigration and billions in border wall funding. "I have to have that".

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-North Carolina, is the House GOP's second-ranking vote counter.

Protesters gathered in more than a dozen states - including California, Texas, Michigan and NY - on Thursday to bring attention to what organizers say is the administration's "cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers".

"He keeps us all excited about how we are going to get things done", Rep. Dennis Ross, a Republican from Florida and supporter of the compromise bill, told CNN. Ryan said Thursday he's not comfortable with a Trump administration policy that separates children from their parents at the southern border and said Congress should step in to fix the problem.

Bills that would have made similar cuts in legal immigration failed earlier this year in the Senate, suggesting that even if the proposed package gets through the House, it would have a hard path toward ultimate passage.

When she was able to move her vehicle , she came upon a woman who had run out of the store but couldn't find her auto . The suspect then attempted to carjack another person in the parking lot when he was approached by two armed civilians.

The House is set to vote on the compromise and Goodlatte bills next week.

"We do not want to separate parents from their children", he said.

Sen. Chuck Schumer's opposition is critical because Ryan's amnesty bill needs support from roughly one-third of the 49 Democratic Senators - and also needs support from almost all GOP votes in the House.

"The President fully supports both the (Representative Bob) Goodlatte Bill and the House leadership Bill", said White House spokesman Raj Shah.

He also says he needs money to build a wall with Mexico.

When asked if the children would be housed in tents in an area where summer temperatures routinely hit 37 degrees Celsius (99 Fahrenheit), Wolfe would only say that the facility would have "soft-sided structures".

The latest target is the administration's zero-tolerance policy, which is applying criminal penalties to illegal immigrants nabbed at the border.

"We're studying the proposal", said Arizona Rep. Martha McSally, who is viewed as the GOP establishment's favorite in one of the top Senate races.

Federer beats Kyrgios to regain number one spot
Federer improved to 21-2 on the season after playing in the 24th grass final of his career. But Federer answered with four points in a row to set up a meeting with Nick Kyrgios .

But Diaz-Balart, a moderate Republican, said the bill was better than the current situation in which the Dreamers are in "legal limbo".

Schumer argues that Republicans should embrace the Democrats' no-strings amnesty push, and offers to support a few token security upgrades to the border. "I have to have that", Trump said.

Now the White House is saying that, yes, he will.

"We need more Republicans, frankly, and that's why I think we're going to do so well in the midterms", he said.

The House intends to vote on both bill next week, as of Saturday, Kaplan reports.

"Zero tolerance" means that when a family is caught sneaking into the USA, the parents now are routinely referred for criminal prosecution, even if they have few or no previous offences.

The compromise bill would halt the separation of immigrant families seeking asylum at the border, which has been nearly universally denounced as inhumane.
