Australian actress Rebel Wilson has Bauer Media libel payout cut

Rebel Wilson Would Like To Remind You She Already Won Her Defamation Suit

She claimed that the articles had prevented her from furthering her Hollywood career, alleging she'd been sacked from two projects, "Trolls" and "Kung Fu Panda 3", due to eight different articles, and was awarded A$4.5 million (£2.7 million) in damages, the largest payout for defamation in Australian history.

The Court of Appeal has reduced the general damages payout to $600,000, and has found the special damages to have been wrongly awarded.

The actress she won her defamation case against Bauer Media in September a year ago. Bauer Media immediately said it would appeal the record-breaking payment.

Wilson is overseas at the moment, so she has yet to comment on today's decision.

US Central Bank Lifts Rates Amid Stronger Inflation, Drops Crisis-Era Guidance
Higher rates in India can derail economic growth, which still is not on strong footing and can be negative for the equity market. In April, the closely-watched 10-year Treasury yield rose above the key level of 3% for the first time since 2014 .

The magazine publisher appealed against what was the largest defamation win in Australian legal history, arguing the size of the settlement set a unsafe precedent and there were errors of law in the judgment.

The Victorian Court of Appeal agreed, setting aside the decision to award her just over Aus$3.9 million for economic losses.

Wilson, 38, was not present in court when the Court of Appeal handed down its ruling and published a 252-page judgment on Thursday.

The Bridesmaids actor took to Twitter and wrote, "I'm away on location in Europe filming right now".

Trump set to meet with Kim one-on-one, sets early departure
Pope Francis said on Sunday he hoped a forthcoming summit in Singapore between Trump and Jong Un will lead to peace for Korea. What does success look like? He also came to Singapore on a Chinese plane, travelling via China , on his way to Singapore .

A summary of the Court of Appeal's judgement said: "For a considerable number of reasons, the critical inferences drawn by the judge could not be upheld".

The $4.5 million figure far exceeded the $389,500 statutory cap that media companies have previously relied on to protect them in defamation cases.

"It followed that the judge's award of damages for economic loss had to be set aside, there was no basis in the evidence for making any award of damages for economic loss". And that while it's not about the money, she'd like to cop as much as possible so she can donate it all to charity and the Aussie film industry.

Going into the appeal, Wilson stood firm in her fight against Bauer Media.
