State Department warns U.S. citizens after possible sonic attack in China

US staffer suffers brain injury after'sound incident in China

A USA official told the AFP newswire that the victim experienced "a variety of physical symptoms" between late 2017 through April 2018.

The State Department urged citizens to seek medical counsel if they experience similar symptoms.

The State Department says a USA government employee working in China suffered "subtle and vague, but abnormal, sensations of sound and pressure" that later led to a diagnosis of "mild traumatic brain injury" - resulting in a warning to all U.S. citizens in the country.

So far, this incident appears to be isolated, as there have not been any similar situations reported within the diplomatic community in China or among other American citizens in country, The Associated Press reported.

Brown: Net Neutrality Vote Could Bring More Pressure on GOP
Republicans voting for the measure included Susan Collins , of Maine, John Kennedy, of Louisiana, and Lisa Murkowski, of Alaska. Passage of the resolution by the Senate and the House would offer a chance to void the Republican-controlled FCC's 3-2 vote.

It advised anyone who experiences "unusual acute auditory or sensory phenomena accompanied by unusual sounds or piercing noises" to not seek out the source, but instead to move to a location where they are not present.

The unusual trauma inflicted on the USA official there recalls a similar spate of reports from Cuba, where United States officials reported symptoms consistent with a "sonic attack" or exposure to harmful frequencies while overseas.

In Cuba, some two dozen American diplomats and their family members experienced a range of ailments, often after hearing an unusual sound.

"We can not at this time connect it with what happened in Havana, but we are investigating all possibilities", a United States embassy official told Reuters.

Brexit: Scotland set to reject EU Withdrawal Bill
But the UK Government wants to temporarily retain some of the returning powers, so it can create common UK-wide frameworks. Mr Russell insisted he wanted to strike a deal, but warned he would not settle for "any agreement, and not at any price".

The spokeswoman added that the Chinese government is also investigating the matter. That evaluation found that the employee's symptoms were similar to those of someone with a head concussion or mild traumatic brain injury.

"A USA government employee in China recently reported subtle and vague, but abnormal, sensations of sound and pressure", the notice said.

"The (State) Department is taking this incident very seriously and is working to determine the cause and impact of the incident", US Embassy spokeswoman Jinnie Lee told Agence France-Presse.

The State Department's health advisory noted the cause of the symptoms is unknown.

We realize that if you need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of your arm'. The aim is to counter Trump's reimposition of sanctions on Iran.

The Chinese foreign ministry could not be immediately reached for comment. Media reports have suggested that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has not been able to verify any evidence to support the sonic weapon theory. Americans working in Cuba suffered permanent hearing loss, severe headaches, loss of balance, brain swelling, and disruption to cognitive functions.
