A huge dust storm and lightning strikes killed at least 125 people across India which braced Thursday for more wild weather.

Disaster response commissioner Sanjay Kumar said the devastation is particularly strong in the northern Indian city of Agra, where the marble mausoleum Taj Mahal is located.

The death toll is expected to rise after an overnight storm ravaged India's Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan states, leaving at least 100 dead and almost 250 injured.

Agra district in Uttar Pradesh was one of the worst hit areas, with at least 43 people killed.
