Israeli Soldiers Kill 7 Palestinians in Gaza over the Weekend

Israeli soldiers killed 3 Palestinians over allegations they have attempted to cross Gaza border

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on Palestinian to return to the negotiating table with Israel, as he spoke in Jordan on Monday at the end of a whirlwind Middle East visit.

A total of 44 protesters have been killed and thousands wounded, many by live fire, in the March of Return protests, which are expected to peak in mid-May, when the Palestinians mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel, which they regard as the Nakba, or catastrophe, and the birth of the Palestinian refugee problem.

Israel's military said troops have shot and killed two Palestinians who infiltrated the country from Gaza, and in a separate incident killed another Palestinian who tried to breach the border.

The weekly marches are aimed in part at trying to break a border blockade of Gaza, imposed by Israel and Egypt after Hamas overran the territory in 2007, a year after winning Palestinian parliament elections.

Asked about the situation, Pompeo demurred, referring to "activities in Gaza over the past days and weeks".

But the Palestinians want Jerusalem as the capital of their own state. The White House is preparing a new Israeli-Palestinian peace plan.
