Watchdog Confirms Skripals Poisoned, UK Says Kremlin Must Give Answers

TOPSHOT-RUSSIA-POLITICS-VOTE

Skripal moved to Britain in a spy swap in 2010 and settled in Salisbury, and his daughter Yulia was visiting from Russian Federation when they were poisoned, possibly on his front door.

"We have every reason to believe this could be a question of the deliberate, forcible detention of a Russian citizen or possibly their coercion into a staged announcement", foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. British officials may feel Sergei Skripal would not be safe to live in the open any longer.

She said Russian Federation will not accept any conclusions unless it gets full access to evidence in the case.

'We will now work tirelessly with our partners to help stamp out the grotesque use of weapons of this kind and we have called a session of the OPCW Executive Council next Wednesday to discuss next steps.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said an analysis of samples taken from Sergei Skripal, his daughter, Yulia, and Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey, confirmed the UK's assessment.

Russian Federation has repeatedly denied any involvement and demanded access to London's case materials. It was later found that the pair had been poisoned by the military-grade nerve agent, which is thought to have been produced by Soviet scientists.

United Kingdom backs U.S. military action on Syria
On Wednesday, Trump appeared to suggest airstrikes were imminent, warning Russia , Syria's key ally, to "get ready" for military action.

Britain says scientific analysis of the poison is only one of the factors that has led it to blame Russian Federation. "I, too, am still suffering with the effects of the nerve agent used against us", her statement said.

Johnson's statement came after the worldwide chemical watchdog confirmed Britain's finding that Sergei Skripal and his daughter were poisoned with a toxin of "high purity".

"Only Russia has the means, motive and record".

The confirmation of the chemical's identity bolsters Britain's case that Russian Federation was behind the attack last month.

Bob Ayers, a security analyst who used to work with the Central Intelligence Agency, said it is possible Sergei and Yulia Skripal would be given new identities in Britain or the U.S. under a scheme like those used to protect witnesses in high-profile criminal trials.

High purity suggests that the poison was developed in a lab with considerable resources and stringent quality control. The summary does not name Novichok - the name that was previously given by British Prime Minister Theresa May - but says the details of the toxin are in the full classified report.

Trump warning: 'Get ready' for United States missile strike on Syria
Trump had on Monday warned of a quick, forceful response once responsibility for the Syria attack was established. Zasypkin also said that any hostilities with Washington should be avoided and Moscow was ready for negotiations.

The report did not identify the source. Russian Federation has repeatedly denied it and even pushed multiple contradictory theories to claim they weren't behind the attack.

She said she was declining an offer of assistance from the Russian embassy.

The poisoning has sparked a Cold War-style diplomatic crisis Russian Federation and the West, including the expulsion of hundreds of diplomats from the two sides.

The statement released on Wednesday evening was the first time Ms Skripal had commented on the welfare of her 66-year-old father, a former Russian double agent.

They also called on United Kingdom officials to "urgently provide evidence" that Skripal was not deprived of her freedom.

Christine Blanshard, medical director of Salisbury District Hospital, said Tuesday that the condition of Sergei Skripal was also improving, albeit at a slower pace than Yulia. They were found slumped on a park bench in the city of Salisbury on March 4.
