Mark Joraanstad, executive director of Arizona School Administrators, says administrators are hoping teachers don't walk out of classrooms and that state lawmakers resolve the issue.

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has signed legislation that repeals a proposed lodging tax that was part of a package of tax hikes for public education.

The discussion looks back to past events that featured a similar Oklahoma State Capitol environment, such as the 1990 educator walkout and a 1978 sit-in. Before that, Oklahoma teachers had not received a raise in a decade.

On Friday, more than 55 of the state's school districts were closed due to the walkouts.

They are also determining how many days they'd be willing to support a teacher walkout.

Oklahoma is one of eight states that has some sort of preferred tax treatment of capital gains, among them Oklahoma neighbor Arkansas, according to Scott Drenkard of the Washington-based Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan think tank that promotes simple and transparent tax policies. "These kids are being cheated and Oklahoma is reaping what they've sown for our education and our children". "And, I think they'll be surprised because we're teachers, we're patient people". "We urge educators statewide not to allow our united efforts to be compromised by continued calls for action that deprive students, parents and communities of the educational services we provide".

The Legislature approved $2.9 billion for public schools, an increase of almost 20 percent over last year's spending.

State officials say Hoffman and her husband drove to the Clinton Police Department on Saturday, where she confessed to having a sexual relationship with one of her 15-year-old students.

"We've always shown a roadmap forward, and the Legislature has had all the opportunities to make the votes and pass the funding", Priest said.

Teachers and supporters were also marching from a number of cities to the Capitol, with some walking more than 100 miles and arriving Monday. She said the strike will continue until the state increases funding for basic needs such as textbooks, supplies, chairs and desks.
