Japan animation giant Takahata passes away at 82

Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata has died aged 82

Creator of powerful and well-loved films such as Grave of the Fireflies and Pom Poko, Japanese news sources report that Takahata passed away at a Tokyo hospital, having been in decline due to a heart condition since previous year. Though at occasions Takahata has denied this praise, but critics like Roger Ebert call this movie as a classic example of an anti-war film and easily be categorised under the list of greatest war films ever to be made. Both artists left Toei Animation Studios in the early 1970s to form their own company.

While many may recognise Studio Ghibli for the imaginative genius of Hayao Miyazaki, it is through his own merit that the attractive, breathtaking humanity that Isao Takahata brought to his films will endure and continue to be celebrated now and forevermore. Shortly after its release, the movie was nominated for a best animated feature film Oscar award during the 87 Academy Awards in 2014.

He also produced the Miyazaki-directed 1984 film "Kaze no Tani no Naushika" ("The Valley of the Wind"), a science fantasy adventure that describes the relationship between nature and human beings.
