Police Officers Involved In Alton Sterling's Death Will Not Be Charged

Alton Sterling 37 was killed by police outside the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge Louisiana

A prosecutor in the USA state of Louisiana has ruled out criminal charges for two white police officers in the 2016 killing of African American Alton Sterling, whose shooting triggered nationwide protests against police brutality.

However, attorneys L. Chris Stewart and Brandon DeCuir, who represent Alton Sterling's five children, said Landry is to meet Tuesday morning with Sterling's relatives and their lawyers in Baton Rouge. "I pray that God blesses and keeps the Sterling family through his hard time".

Officer Blane Salamoni shot and killed Mr Sterling during a struggle outside a shop where the 37-year-old was selling homemade CDs. I know they may not agree with this decision.

"They're not going to bring charges on anybody".

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry says a black man fatally shot by two white police officers had illegal drugs in his system at the time of the encounter outside a convenience store.

Pulse Gunman's Father Was FBI Informant Under Criminal Investigation, Attorneys Say
Questioning revealed that FBI investigators knew the claims were false only days after she signed the confession statements. The prosecution had already rested its case; the defense was expected to begin its case this week.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore recused himself from any state criminal investigation into Sterling's death, citing his professional relationship with Salamoni's parents, who have served as police officers in Baton Rouge.

The announcement comes almost two years after Sterling's death.

"The Louisiana Department of Justice can not proceed with a prosecution of either Officer Lake or Officer Salamoni".

"They said they didn't find anything", she said. Cell phone video showed Sterling pinned to the ground by the officers before he was shot; police said Sterling was shot because he was reaching for a gun. The confrontation between Sterling and Salamoni and officer Howie Lake II, who are both white, was captured on video.

Sterling's family said it would continue to follow through with a civil lawsuit they filed a year ago.

After the hearings, Paul said, police will release four additional videos: two body camera recordings; one from a store surveillance camera; and one from the dashboard camera in a patrol auto. Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul said Tuesday that his department still intends to complete disciplinary hearings for the officers, including releasing findings such as dash-cam video.

Afterward, the camera captures Sterling with a large bloodstain on his chest as an officer on the ground next to him keeps his gun pointed at him.

After Alton Sterling was shot by police in 2016, his death spawned protests across the nation. Salamoni eventually holstered his gun, tackled Sterling to the ground and tried to control Sterling's right arm, and Lake knelt and tried to control Sterling's left arm, the state report says.
