Villanova tops Texas Tech to earn a trip to the Final Four

NCAA takes steps to permit Purdue’s Isaac Haas to wear a brace on his injured elbow

But for the first 30 minutes of the game he was seemingly nowhere to be found. His counterpart, Texas Tech senior guard Keenan Evans, didn't have it on Sunday.

Villanova is headed for the Final Four for the second time in three years and the sixth time in school history. And after three pulsating tournament victories, their confidence should be soaring.

And it'll be the same plan next week if Evans and the Red Raiders complete their improbable journey with a bid to the Final Four.

Foul trouble spelled both teams as well.

It was a long day for Tech on the glass, especially on the defensive end. Keenan Evans (17.7 ppg) and Justin Gray (15.1 ppg) will need to have great games on offense for the Red Raiders to have a shot in this one. Ian Eagle will work as the play-by-play announcer. It will air on CBS with Ian Eagle, Jim Spanarkel, and Allie LaForce courtside at TD Garden.

The Red Raiders are 15th in College Basketball on the defensive side. They've been in the Sweet Sixteen six times, but never to the Elite Eight.

Villanova (34-4) will play the victor of the Midwest final between top-seeded Kansas and No. 2 seed Duke.

The Red Raiders rank 14th in assists allowed per game (10.3) while the Wildcats rank 187th (13.8). The Wildcats advanced earlier Friday night with a 90-78 victory over West Virginia. Texas Tech shot 47.5% from the field and 94.4% (17-18) from the FT-line in the victory.

Strong guard play has been critical for the Red Raiders throughout the tournament. TTU's Zhaire Smith had two in the first 6:37 of the game, taking a great athletic, necessary defender out early. Villanova torches opponents for an average of 11.7 threes per game and leads the nation with 432 threes.

Rand Paul exposes waste in the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill
However, Friday afternoon he agreed to sign the bill, because it would increase military spending, something he has championed. Thus, his conservative agenda was stripped away, in a pragmatic move to take the "throw him out of the WH" pressure.

Villanova came into the game with 44 3-pointers for the tournament. They have matched a season high for most 3-pointers during a three-game span with their recent perimeter blitz. Tech does not press the way West Virginia did and does not force as many turnovers, but that does not make it any less stressful for Villanova.

Coming out of halftime, Villanova kept the lead for the rest of the game and looked to have complete control. He briefly accepted the UNLV job two years ago before bolting after a month to accept the Texas Tech position. As of Sunday morning, the Wildcats are getting 64 percent of the wagers on this game as the favorite against Texas Tech.

After scoring 30 points in the first half, Texas Tech exploded for 48 after intermission. Five Red Raiders scored at least nine points while displaying their outstanding defense.

The season is not ending how the Red Raiders wanted it to. "My teammates, my coaching staff, they instill confidence in me even if I'm 1-for-9, 1-for-10", he said. Purdue ended its season with a 30-7 record.

Texas Tech's athleticism has been one of its hallmarks in the tournament. "It's fun when they go in but we don't worry about missing them". The Wildcats shot just 4-for-24 from 3-point range on Saturday; in the past, that was a death sentence for Villanova. Get your 100% signup bonus today.

Officer charged in death of Justine Damond
The shooting also raised concerns among the Midwestern city's Somali American community, with worries about a possible backlash. Noor and his partner Matthew Harrity reportedly gave Damond CPR before backup arrived, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Donte DiVincenzo and Mikal Bridges each added 12 points.
