Egypt launches Facebook rival Egypt Face

A policeman was killed in a bomb attack on Saturday targeting the security chief of the city of Alexandria, two days before the start of Egypt's presidential election, officials said.

Investigators say a bomb placed underneath the auto went off when the security chief drove by, raising speculation that it was targeting the official.

Employees at businesses in the area heard a loud explosion and sirens from ambulances and police vehicles. Egypt's interior ministry and army have tightened security ahead of the elections, which will be held Monday through Wednesday.

Mattis Says Saudis 'Part of the Solution' in Yemen
The US Senate killed on Tuesday a resolution seeking an end to US support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. Meanwhile, the U.S. formally approved defence contracts totaling more than $1bn with Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

The attack came just days before Egypt's presidential election, in which Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is virtually certain to be re-elected.

Al-Nimr was later seen on a local TV channel inspecting the site of the blast.

The Islamic State terror organization claimed responsibility for both attacks.

However, Schecter, in a 19-page decision, ruled that there is "absolutely no authority for dismissing or staying the case". She also called the agreement an illegal donation from AMI to the Trump campaign in violation of federal election law.

Nemr was not among the casualties of the "terrorist bombing that targeted the convoy", his office said, quoted by state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram.

Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek ordered an "urgent and wide inquiry". In November, an attack on worshipers at a North Sinai mosque killed more than 300 people and almost a month later nine people were killed at the Mar Mina Church in Helwan, Cairo ahead of Coptic Christian celebrations in December.

The deadline has since been extended and the armed forces have launched their most comprehensive campaign yet to end the five-year-old jihadist insurgency.
