Bulls remained confused as the potential global trade-war vented-out by Trump administration slowly but steadily came into intentness.

Asian share indices were lower in early trade because investor appetite for riskier assets was subdued ahead of the outcome of the US Federal Open Market Committee's two-day monetary policy meeting, starting Tuesday. Metal stocks bore the brunt after prices of base metals dropped in global markets.

The Nifty was trading above the crucial 10,100 level, up 0.52 per cent, at 10,146.55.

The Sensex settled at 32,923, down 252.88 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,094, down 100.90 points.

At 10:35 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,121, down 54 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,171, down 24 point.

Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) and foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 5,955.29 crore during the week, as per Sebi's record including the provisional figure of March 16, 2018.

Barring seven stocks, the rest of Sensex shares ended in the red. Other laggards include, Adani Ports, Hero MotoCorp, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Kotak Bank, ONGC, HDFC, L&T, Dr Reddy's, ITC, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, TCS, Bajaj Auto, Reliance Industries, Power Grid and HDFC Bank.

Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Coal India, Wipro and Yes Bank declined the most on Sensex, and the top losers on Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
