Cynthia Nixon announces run for governor of NY

Cynthia Nixon is lagging far behind Gov. Cuomo if she decides to mount Democratic primary challenge a poll shows

"I love NY, and today I'm announcing my candidacy", the 51-year-old said on Twitter.

The website describes Nixon as a "lifelong New Yorker and progressive activist" who chose to run in order to "fight for a better, more equal NY". "I've never lived anywhere else", she says in the voiceover, noting that she grew up with her single mom in a fifth-floor walkup.

In the video, Nixon said "our leaders are letting us down".

In the video, Nixon decries income inequality in a state that she says has "incredible wealth and extreme poverty" and the depressed upstate economy where she says half of all children are poor. The Democratic Primary will be held on September 13, and Cuomo - a potential presidential candidate for 2020 - is running for his third term as governor.

Mirandas of the world united to cheer on Nixon and remember her character Miranda Hobbes, the high-powered attorney on HBO's Sex and the City. If elected, she would become New York's first female governor, and the first to come out as gay.

Andrea Buera said at a news conference last week that she was the woman Songz had assaulted. Nixon will run against incumbent Gov. Cuomo in the Democratic primary. It can't just be business as usual anymore.

The primary elections will take place on Sep. Another sign of her seriousness is the people who have signed on with her candidacy from the get-go.

Liberal organizations in NY had spent months courting candidates to challenge Cuomo, a second-term governor who has occasionally clashed at times with some in his party's left flank. "That's called elections and that's fine".

More: Cynthia Nixon for NY governor?

A survey conducted by New York's Siena College before Ms Nixon's public announcement shows Mr Cuomo leading Democrats by 66 percent to Ms Nixon's 19 percent. There were two feature films in the franchise.

Nixon also criticizes Cuomo's dealings with the state Senate's Independent Democratic Conference (IDC), a small group of breakaway Democrats who vote with Republicans, giving the GOP control of the legislature despite the fact that Democrats, on paper, hold more seats. The actress, best known for her role as the practical lawyer Miranda on HBO' "Sex and the City", was born in NY.
