Student, 19, shoots parents dead at university campus, sets off manhunt

Two people were fatally shot at Central Michigan University on Friday

James Davis Jr.is a 19-year-old student who killed his parents, Diva and James Davis Sr., inside his dorm.

Central Michigan's Emergency Communication said on its website that James Eric Davis Jr was arrested without incident early on Saturday.

Klaus, the campus police lieutenant in MI, said anyone who sees Davis shouldn't confront him, but needs to call 911.

A daylong manhunt in MI for a college student who allegedly shot his parents dead Friday morning after they arrived on campus to pick him up for Spring Break has stretched into the evening hours.

The entire CMU campus and most of the city of Mt Pleasant, where the university is located, was in lockdown mode while police from local, state and federal agencies searched the area.

Klaus said video at the dorm suggested that Davis had fled on foot after the shooting.

The suspect is at large and considered armed and unsafe, according to police. Further details weren't immediately available.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said, "The priority right now is the safety of those still on campus".

CMU students and staff were under shelter-in-place orders for hours on Friday.

Davis graduated from Plainfield Central High School in 2016 after attending Plainfield South High School for three years, according to Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez.

The parents have at least two other children, an older son and a younger daughter, Harvey said.
