Dapchi abduction: United Nations calls for release of missing girls

Dapchi Girls: Hold Army, Police Responsible …-Dogara …As FG Lists Details Of Missing 110 Students ….Army Speaks

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday reacted to a newly-published memo which indicated that the Defence Intelligence Agency put the military on the notice about possible Boko Haram attacks in Borno and Yobe States, some days before insurgents stormed a school and possibly abducted more than 100 girls.

"The attention of Headquarters of Theatre Command, Operations LAFIYA DOLE, has been drawn to a statement credited to His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam, Executive Governor of Yobe State, now circulating in the media, in which he reportedly alleged that the withdrawal of the military was responsible for the recent suspected Boko Haram terrorists' attack and abduction of female students from Government Girls Science Technical College in Dapchi".

Plan called the Dapchi schoolgirls kidnap a "classic case of history repeating itself with no lessons learnt" and a gross violation of the girls' right to freedom and equality.

State police, Yobe government and others had given different figures while a parent representing families of girls who disappeared on Friday told Reuters 105 were missing.

The girls were abducted when Boko Haram insurgents raided the school on February 19.

"We still have over 100 girls that are unaccounted for".

The insurgents drove into the town of Dapchi on Monday and attacked the girls' school, sending hundreds of students fleeing.

The people did not only boo the number one citizen of the state but threw stones and unsafe objects at his convoy, resulting in the destruction of some vehicles.

Winter Olympics 2018: Delta declined gold-winning USA curling team's upgrade request
The United States' performance was highlighted by snowboarder Shaun White 's gold medal run in the men's halfpipe. One Twitter user joked about the Olympic tradition of biting into gold medals, to ensure their quality.

"Obviously, the number of sorties does not equate the number of aircraft deployed". "We would also like to assure the parents, government and the good people of Yobe State and indeed members of the public that we will not rest on our oars in the search and rescue of the abducted school girls and any other persons held captive by the terrorists".

In a joint operation, troops freed the hostages from several villages along the border of the two West African nations, Nigerian army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement.

The party said such investigation has become necessary owing to rising speculations and "Conspiracy theorems in the public space, fuelled by conflicting reports, attempts at cover-up and disagreements among government officials and agencies regarding the ugly incident", adding that the "National Assembly must take a critical note of the allegation by Yobe State governor, Ibrahim Geidam, who insists that the abduction was preceded by the withdrawal of troops safeguarding the troubled area". The troops were moved to Kanama on a reinforcement after Nigerian soldiers came under heavy firepower there.

Mr. Nwachukwu said the police were placed in charge of security operations in Dapchi, which he said had never been attacked before January 19 and was never under any imminent threat of Boko Haram. The president described the Dapchi girls' disappearance as a "national disaster" days after the attack, but has been criticized for failing to publicly address the situation apart from the occasional Twitter update.
