Nigeria confirms 110 girls missing after Boko Haram school attack

Abducted Nigerian girls' parents to join Bring Back Our Girls campaign

More than 100 girls remain unaccounted for following an attack on a school in north-eastern Nigeria by suspected members of Boko Haram, officials have said.

When militants last Monday storm-trooped a girls school in Dapchi, Yobe State, displacing the students and their minders and apparently abducting some, it was a virtual reenactment of the nightmare we tangled with not too long go in Nigerian nationhood history.

ABUJA-THE Nigerian Air Force, NAF, said it has deployed additional air assets, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, platforms to the North East in its renewed effort at locating the missing Dapchi school girls.

Residents say that Nigeria's security forces, backed by military jets, later repelled the attack.

DAPCHI, Nigeria-Garba Sule was preparing for evening prayers when heavily armed Boko Haram jihadists rode into town last week in pickup trucks, firing hundreds of rounds into the air and demanding directions to the local girls' school.

Frustrated and angry parents of the missing girls have since announced plans to join the Bring Back Our Girls movement that was launched in 2014 when 270 girls were adbucted in the town of Chibok.

"Before Boko Haram attacked Chibok, that Chibok had the least threat of Boko Haram in the northeast".

Also a statement by the Director-General, Press Affairs to Yobe Governor, Malam Abdullahi Bego said the report by the medium is erroneous and misleading. "We are sorry that this could have happened and share your pain". "Mohammed Lami, 110 students - out of whom 906 have not been accounted for - were in the school on the day of the attack". "Now they are telling me she is missing", said the distraught father.

"Some ministers came but they didn't even speak with any parent, principal or teachers of the school", he said.

In a further sign of community anger, villagers confronted a convoy carrying Yobe state governor on Thursday when he said 76 girls reported to have been rescued were in fact still missing.

They then mounted a sting operation, replacing the drugs with flour and adding tracking devices. She said Russian security service agents had also traveled to Argentina to assist in the probe.

But when Gaidam arrived, he apologised, saying he was mistaken and had relied on security officials whose information had turned out to be false.

It would seem that other than modest lessons in survival shown by the Dapchi girls to have been learnt from the Chibok saga, very little has been learnt by anybody else. Among them: Mr. Sule's 13-year-old daughter, Zara. They later admitted that the claim was based on information that was "not credible" and had been provided by "one of the security agencies involved in the fight against Boko Haram".
